Bridge Named To Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame

Toronto, Ontario – Ian Bridge, who recently coached Canada’s Women’s Under-19 Team to the final of the FIFA Under -19 World Championships, will be one of 11 new inductees to The Soccer Hall of Fame in Vaughan, Ontario next May. However, Bridge’s induction is due to a stellar playing career which saw him play in 33 full international games for Canada, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He also played for the 1984 Canadian Olympic which reached the quarter-finals before losing to Brazil, as well as the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Canada To Compete In Algarve Cup

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will compete against three fellow World Cup qualifiers at the 10th annual Algarve Cup in Portugal in March 2003. The Canadians were put in one of the strongest groups of the tournament with the United States, France and Sweden (all of whom have qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup).

Canadians One Win Away From China

Seattle, Washington – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team are one win away from a berth in the 2003 Women’s World Cup in China. The Canadians will face Mexico tonight at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington at 9:30 p.m. PT (Rogers Sportsnet) in one semi-final of the Gold Cup while the United States plays Costa Rica. Both winners will gain automatic spots in the 4th Women’s World Cup.



The Canadians head into the game with all of their players fit to play. The team practised at Safeco Field on Tuesday and will fly to Los Angeles on Thursday morning.

CSA Reaches Agreement with Women’s World Cup Team

Victoria, British Columbia – The Canadian Soccer Association announced today it has reached an agreement with the Women’s World Cup Team which will see the players receive a minimum of $2,000 (18 x $2,000 = $36,000) per player for appearing in the Gold Cup.



Should the team advance to the semi-final and win it (thus earning one of two berths in the Women’s World Cup), then a further $5,500 (18 x $5,500 = $99,000) per player will be awarded.

Victoria, C.-B. – L’Association canadienne de soccer a annoncé aujourd’hui qu’elle avait conclu une entente avec l’équipe féminine de Coupe du monde, qui permettra à chacune des joueuses de toucher un minimum de 2000$ (18 x 2000$ = 36 000$) pour leur participation au tournoi de la Gold Cup.



Si l’équipe atteint la demi-finale et la remporte (obtenant par le fait même un laissez-passer pour la Coupe du monde féminine), un montant supplémentaire de 5500$ (18 x 5500$ = 99 000$) par joueuse leur sera versé.
