Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a dévoilé son alignement de 20 joueuses qui prendront part à la Coupe du monde de soccer féminin de la FIFA aux États-Unis.
Silvana Burtini, Andrea Neil et Charmaine Hooper participeront à une troisième Coupe du monde consécutive tandis qu’Isabelle Morneau, Sharolta Nonen et Karina LeBlanc sont les seules autres joueuses ayant au moins une expérience de Coupe du monde.
Six joueuses ont aussi fait partie de l’équipe canadienne des moins de 19 ans qui a remporté la médaille d’argent aux derniers championnats du monde U19 féminins de la FIFA en 2002. Il s’agit de Christine Sinclair, Erin McLeod, Sasha Andrews, Carmelina Moscato, Kara Lang et Brittany Timko.
Edmonton, Alberta – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team earned a 6-0 win over Mexico at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC Thursday night to sweep their two-game series. It was Canada’s fourth straight two-game series sweep, with earlier victories coming over England, Mexico and Brazil. Canada has now won all 10 encounters between the two countries and are undefeated in their last nine games. The Canadians outscored their visitors 14-0 in the two games after Sunday’s 8-0 win in Edmonton.
Kara Lang opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she intercepted a poor back pass and her right-footed shot eluded Jennifer Molina in the Mexican goal, though it did hit Mexican defender Monica Gonzalez on the way in. It was Lang’s 16th goal in 28th game.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced it has received and accepted the resignation of Canadian Men’s World Team Head Coach and Technical Director Holger Osieck, effective immediately.
The CSA will immediately begin the search for a replacement. Men’s World Cup Team Assistant Coach Colin Miller will handle the head coaching responsibilities for Canada’s international friendly against Finland on October 11, in Tampere, Finland. A new head coach is expected to be chosen and in place by December, 2003.
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Holger publicly for his commitment and accomplishments with the Men’s World Cup Team,” said CSA President Andy Sharpe. “Both sides agreed that it was time for us to move in a new direction.”
MONTREAL — The Montreal Impact put an end to a three-game dry spell offensively and was crowned top team in Canada, Sunday, following a 2-0 victory against Calgary.
With the win, coach Bob Lilley’s squad won the Voyageurs Cup, awarded to the top Canadian team in the A-League, for the second year in a row. Montreal also finished on top of the Eastern Conference, as well as tied for first place in overall A-League standings with the Milwaukee Wave United with 54 points.
“We’ve won the Voyageurs Cup, the Can-Am Cup and the division title, so we’ve done well this year, and hopefully we’ll carry that into the playoffs,” said Lilley, whose team will face the Rochester Rhinos in next weekend’s first playoff round.

Christine Latham scored two goals as the Canadians earned their ninth win in as many games against Mexico. It was also Canada’s eighth game without a loss (seven wins, one draw).

Edmonton, Alberta – Canadian Women’s World Cup team head coach Even Pellerud today announced defender/midfielder Candace Chapman will miss the upcoming Women’s World Cup after suffering a torn ACL during an exhibition game on Friday, August 22nd. Chapman was flown to Toronto on Monday, August 25th and underwent an MRI which revealed the extent of the injury. A consult for further assessment by an orthopedic surgeon will take place this Wednesday.
“It is disappointing for the team and coaching staff to lose Candace. The timing is very unlucky and definitely unfortunate for Candace,” said Pellerud. “We hope that after her surgery she will be back with the team again.”
Edmonton, Alberta – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a annoncé aujourd’hui que le défenseur et milieu de terrain Candace Chapman ratera la phase finale de la Coupe du monde après s’être blessée à un genou dans le match amical du vendredi 22 août. Chapman est retournée à Toronto, lundi le 25 août et a subi un examen de résonance magnétique qui a révélé l’étendue des dégâts. Elle consultera un chirurgien orthopédique mercredi pour une autre évaluation.
« C’est décevant pour l’équipe et le personnel d’entraîneurs de perdre Candace. Le moment n’est pas très opportun et c’est malheureux pour Candace, » explique-t-il. « Nous espérons qu’après sa chirurgie, elle sera de retour avec l’équipe. »
