Canada And USA To Renew Rivalry

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women’s World Cup Team will play an international friendly against the United States on July 3, 2004 at The Coliseum in Nashville, Tennessee. The game will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. CT (8:00 p.m. ET).



This game, to be played at the home of the Tennessee Titans of the NFL, will mark the 34th time these two rivals have faced each other. The US defeated Canada 2-0 at the Four Nations Tournament in China on February 3 and came away with a 3-1 win in the 2003 Women’s World Cup Third Place Match in October.



This will be Canada’s first game since the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Costa Rica in March.

Le Canada et les États-Unis renouvelleront la rivalité

Ottawa, Ontario – L’Association canadienne de soccer a annoncé que son équipe féminine de Coupe du monde disputera un match international amical contre les États-Unis, le 3 juillet 2004 au Coliseum de Nashville, au Tennessee. La rencontre débutera à 19 h 00 (Heure du Centre/ 20 h, Heure de l’Est).



La rencontre sera disputée au domicile des Titans du Tennessee de la Ligue nationale de football. Il s’agira d’une 34e confrontation entre les deux équipes. Les États-Unis ont vaincu le Canada 2 à 0 au tournoi des quatre nations en Chine, en février 2004, après l’avoir emporté 3 à 1 dans le match pour la troisième place à la Coupe du monde de soccer en octobre 2003 en Californie.



Il s’agira du premier match de l’équipe canadienne depuis le tournoi de qualification olympique de la CONCACAF, au Costa Rica en mars dernier.

Soccer Hall of Fame to Honour 11 Greatest Players and Builders

Ottawa, Ontario – The Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum will honour 11 of Canada’s greatest players and builders at the Toronto Board of Trade Country Club in Woodbridge, Ontario on Saturday, May 1st, 2004.



The eight players being inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame are Tony Chursky (NASL Era – Seattle Sounders), Bob Bolitho (NASL Era – Tulsa Roughnecks), John Catliff (CSL Era – Vancouver 86ers), Paul Dolan (CSL Era – Vancouver 86ers), Angela Kelly (Women’s National team), Pat Philley (1957 World Cup Team – Vancouver City), Gordon “Gogie” Stewart (1957 World Cup Team – Westminster Royals), Trevor Harvey (Early Years – Vancouver North Shore United).

Manitoba Appoints Vergara As CAO

Mr. Stew Duncan, President of the Manitoba Soccer Association, is very pleased to announce that Mr. Hector Vergara has been appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Officer with the Association.
Mr. Vergara graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1992 with a Bachelor of Recreation Studies degree. Following graduation, Mr. Vergara worked with the Winnipeg Pan American Games Society in a number of sport administration positions; the most recent being International Relations Manager. Following the 1999 Pan American Games, he served as a Marketing Manager with Pollard Banknote Limited.

Hooper Chosen To FIFA Women’s All Star Team

The FIFA Women’s All Star Team to face world champions Germany at the Stade de France in Paris on 20 May 2004 has been finalised. From six continents and 12 nations, FIFA welcomed 20 of the biggest names in the female game who will kick-off the football fiesta on FIFA’s 100th birthday. Ottawa’s Charmaine Hooper was chosen among the list of the world’s top female soccer players. With the most all-time caps and goals for her country, Canadian women’s football – currently on an awe-inspiring upswing – owes an enormous debt of gratitude to this classy, versatile footballer.

Women Honoured As Female Team Of The Year

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team were honoured as Canada’s Female Team of the Year by the Spirit of Sport Foundation (SSF) at the 31st Annual Canadian Sport Awards at a gala event held at the CBC headquarters in Toronto last night for their fourth place finish at the 2003 Women’s World Cup.



The women were the first Canadian senior team to ever win a game at a World Cup soccer competition.

L’équipe senior féminine est choisie équipe canadienne par excellence

L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a été élue équipe féminine par excellence au Canada pour l’année 2003 par la Fondation de l’esprit du sport (FES) dans le cadre de la 31e cérémonie annuelle des Prix sportifs canadiens qui s’est déroulée au siège social de Radio-Canada à Toronto, hier soir. Cet honneur rejaillit sur l’équipe après sa quatrième place obtenue à la Coupe du monde de football féminin de la FIFA 2003.



L’équipe féminine est devenue la première équipe canadienne senior à remporter un match dans une phase finale de la Coupe du monde de soccer.

Yallop Announces Manchester Camp Roster

Ottawa, Ontario –- Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named an 18 player roster for a training camp in Manchester, England from March 28 – April 1. The players are all from European-based clubs.



This is Yallop’s second training camp and his first with players from European-based clubs. His first was for primarily North American-based players in January which was followed by a 1-0 win over Barbados in Bridgetown on January 18. Yallop also scouted players at the Olympic Qualifying tournament in Mexico in February.
