Canada Will Host 2004 Under-19 Qualifying Tournament

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association announced it will host the Final Round of the Women’s Under-19 CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament next year after the CONCACAF Executive Committee awarded the hosting rights to the CSA at a meeting in Miami, Florida.
The event will take place between May 28 and June 6, 2004 at both Ottawa’s Frank Clair Stadium and Montreal’s McGill University Molson Stadium.
“This is great news for the U-19 Team and for soccer in Canada,” said Canadian Women’s Under-19 head coach Ian Bridge. “I look forward to playing these important CONCACAF qualifying games in Montreal and Ottawa. The team will be excited and motivated to play in front of large, pro-Canadian crowds.”

As a defender, Bridge played in 33 full international games for Canada including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Pellerud Wins Inaugural Coaching Award

Ottawa, Ontario – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) announced today that Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team coach, Even Pellerud, is the inaugural recipient of the Vector “Performance of the Year” Award in recognition of his team being selected as the most inspirational sports story of the year.

At the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup which concluded earlier this month in the United States, Canada finished a surprising fourth advancing to the bronze medal game which it lost to the U.S., the defending champions. The Canadians, the second youngest team in the tournament, were seeded 12th.

Canada To Play Czech Republic and Republic of Ireland

Ottawa, Canada – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play international “A” friendlies against two of the top 15 teams in the World when they face the Czech Republic and the Republic of Ireland on November 15 and 18, respectively.

Canada will face the Czech Republic in Teplice, Czech Republic on Saturday, November 15. The Czechs, who won their European Championship Qualifying group with a record of seven wins and one draw, are ranked No. 11 in the FIFA World Rankings.

Lenarduzzi and Wilson To Be Inducted Into U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame

Ottawa, Ontario – Former Canadian Nationals Bob Lenarduzzi and Bruce Wilson will be inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of fame this weekend in Oneonta, New York.

Lenarduzzi was a defender-midfielder who played more games in the North American Soccer League than any other man, 312, including 288 in the regular season and 24 in the playoffs. In the course of this achievement, playing in a league dominated by United States-based teams, he probably had more influence on American soccer than any other player ever who wasn’t an American citizen and never played for an American club.

McLeod’s World Cup Experience

I was asked to do a summary of the 2003 USA Women’s World Cup in about three paragraphs. I accepted the offer because I feel so proud and honoured that I was even a part of the Canadian National team, but now I have realized how difficult this experience is to put into words.

Our first game was against Germany, the World Champions. Going into this game we knew they were ranked about number one in the world, no pressure right? We ended up losing 4-1 but no one on the team thought we played anywhere near our potential.

Notre premier match était contre l’Allemagne.
