Canada’s women’s national team has announced that it will face China in an international friendly match this Saturday 24 April. The two sides will meet Chongqing for a 19.35 kickoff.
It has been less than two years since Canada and China last met in the group phase of the 2008 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. The two sides played to a 1:1 draw on that day in Tianjin, with Christine Sinclair and Xu Yuan trading goals just minutes apart in the first half.

Just four short weeks remain before the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship kicks off in Toronto, ON. As reigning champions from 2009, Toronto FC will host the competition opener on Wednesday 28 April at BMO against inaugural champion Impact de Montréal. The 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship runs six consecutive Wednesday nights from 28 April through 2 June in Toronto, Vancouver and Montréal. All six matches will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet. The champion of the three-team competition qualifies for CONCACAF Champions League.
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association announced its award winners at its Annual Banquet this Saturday night. The two big award winners were Senior Players of the Year Mark Korthuis and Jenine Stangier.
Other award winners were Youth Players of the Year Mitchell Bauche and Megan Schenher, Senior Coach of the Year Matt Macknack, Youth Coach of the Year Phil Rapin, Referee of the Year Chad Salisbury, Volunteer of the Year Dena Clark and David Newsham Volunteer Award winner John Leyshon. The Senior Team of the Year was WMG Prairie Canucks while the Youth Team of the Year was Aurora Elite U-16.
All 64 matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ will be broadcast live in English and French this summer in Canada. The matches will be broadcast by CBC Television, Radio-Canada Télévision, CBC Bold, CBCSports.ca and Radio-Canada.ca. The schedule provides more than 1,000 total combined hours of broadcast via television and webstream from 11 June through 11 July.
The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that it has organized a home-and-away series for its women’s national team against the reigning two-time world champion Germany. The two countries have agreed to meet this 15 September 2010 in Germany with a return match to be played in Canada the following year in 2011. The first match will lend to both program’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 while the second match will be part of the preparations for the 2012 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
“It is important that we continue to improve our international experience,” said national coach Carolina Morace. “Germany is a team with a long history as one of the best teams in Europe and in the world.”

Canada’s women’s national team has moved back up into the top-10 on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking. Canada moved up two spots to 10th place on the newest ranking released this 12 March. Canada, whose title partner is Winners and whose presenting partner is Teck, remains the second-ranked team within CONCACAF behind the world’s number-one ranked nation, USA.
