Canada Drops 1-0 Decision To USA

Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team suffered a 1-0 loss to the United States in a friendly played in Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday night.



The U.S. got all the offense it needed on a second half tally from defender Heather Mitts, who tapped home a ball in front of the net after a corner kick.



Andrea Neil earned her 101st cap, while CONCACAF Women’s U-19 Qualifying Tournament MVP, Emily Zurrer earned her 1st cap with the senior team.

NASHVILLE, TN – L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a subi un revers de 1 à 0 aux mains des États-Unis dans un match présenté samedi soir au Coliseum de Nashville, au Tennessee.



Les Américains ont profité d’un but de deuxième demie du défenseur Heather Mitts pour s’enfuir avec la victoire. Mitts a récupéré un ballon laissé libre devant le but à la suite d’un coup de pied de coin.



Andrea Neil a disputé le 101e match international de sa carrière tandis que la Joueuse par excellence du tournoi U19 féminin de la CONCACAF, Emily Zurrer, a disputé son premier match international au niveau senior.



L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde disputera ses deux prochains matchs les 30 juillet et 2 août au Japon dans le cadre d’une tournée de matchs amicaux.

Les Canadiennes disputeront deux matchs au Japon

Ottawa, Ontario – L’Association canadienne de soccer a annoncé aujourd’hui que son équipe féminine de Coupe du monde disputera deux matchs amicaux au Japon. Le Canada affrontera l’équipe japonaise féminine de Coupe du monde, le 30 juillet 2004 à 16 h 30 (heure locale) au stade national de Tokyo, puis une sélection nationale japonaise, le 2 août 2004 au stade Amino Vital Field de Tokyo.



« Plusieurs membres de notre équipe des moins de 19 ans auront l’occasion de faire leurs preuves au niveau senior après une superbe prestation au tournoi de qualification de la CONCACAF, » a déclaré l’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud. « Ces matchs donneront l’occasion à la jeune génération en vue du championnat du monde U19 féminin de la FIFA en Thaïlande. »



L’équipe canadienne s’envolera vers Tokyo le 26 juillet.

Women To Play In Japan

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women’s World Cup Team will play two games in Japan. Canada will play Japan’s Women’s World Cup Team at Tokyo’s National Stadium on July 30th, 2004 at 16:30 local time, followed by a game against a Japan National Team Selection at Amino Vital Field Stadium in Tokyo on August 2nd, 2004.



“After the impressive performance at the recent CONCACAF Under-19 Qualification Tournament, many of those players will have a chance to show their impact at the senior level,” said Head Coach Even Pellerud. “This series will provide added experience to the young generation leading into the Women’s Under-19 World Championships in Thailand.”



The team is scheduled to depart for Tokyo on July 26th.

Pellerud Announces Roster For USA Friendly

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud today named his 16-player roster for the upcoming friendly against the United States on July 3rd at The Coliseum in Nashville, Tennessee at 7:00 p.m. CT (8:00 p.m. ET).



New to the World Cup roster is Emily Zurrer of Crofton, BC who was recently named MVP at the CONCACAF U-19 Qualifying Tournament where Canada defeated the United States in extra time and claimed a berth at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship in Thailand.



Other U-19 team players on this roster include Aysha Jamani, Kara Lang, Véronique Maranda, and Brittany Timko. All four have earned caps at the senior level.

Pellerud dévoile son alignement pour affronter les Américaines

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde Even Pellerud a dévoilé aujourd’hui son alignement de 16 joueuses en vue du match international amical du samedi 3 juillet contre les États-Unis au Coliseum de Nashville, au Tennessee. Le coup d’envoi est prévu pour 20 h 00 (Heure de l’Est).



À noter l’ajout d’Emily Zurrer de Crofton, en Colombie-Britannique qui a récemment été nommé « Joueuse par Excellence » du tournoi U19 de la CONCACAF, où le Canada a vaincu les États-Unis en prolongation en finale pour remporter le titre et obtenir un laissez-passer au championnat du monde U19 féminin de la FIFA en Thaïlande.



Les autres membres de l’équipe U19 incluses au sein de la formation sont Aysha Jamani, Kara Lang, Véronique Maranda et Brittany Timko qui avaient déjà disputé des matchs au niveau senior.

Edmonton Tickets Go On Sale Friday

EDMONTON, June 23, 2004 — After two convincing wins in Kingston last week against Belize, the Canadian Men’s World Cup Soccer Team has advanced to the next round of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. At a press conference held today at Edmonton City Hall, the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA), the Edmonton local organizing committee and exclusive Diamond Sponsor CIBC announced Edmonton will host the second Canadian home game of the semi-final qualifying round on September 4th, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. (local time).

•tMembers from Edmonton’s local organizing committee.



Tickets for the game range from $19.00 – $39.00 for reserved seating and $8.00 for general admission seating.

Vancouver Will Host Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Vancouver, BC– The Canadian Soccer Association today announced that Canada’s first semi-final round game of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying against Guatemala will be played at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver on August, 18th at 7:00 p.m. (local).



Grandstand tickets for all ages will be priced at $39.00 and $34.00, bleacher tickets at $27.00, and end zone tickets are $15.00.



Whitecaps ticket holders have priority rights to purchase tickets for the game before they go on sale on Saturday, July 3rd. The purchase window opens on July 1st, Canada Day, at 9:30am PST through Ticketmaster.

Yallop Announces Roster For Belize Series

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named his 18-player roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifying series against Belize in Kingston, Ontario on Sunday, June 13th at 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 16th at 7:30 p.m.



The team recently earned an impressive 3-1 victory in an exhibition game against the San Jose Earthquakes at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California on Saturday, June 5. The game was aborted after 75 minutes of play due to a power outage.



Added to the roster is Mark Watson who missed the San Jose game to play for the Charleston Battery. Watson rejoined the team in Ottawa today. Patrice Bernier will join the team on Thursday after playing in a cup game for Moss FK in Norway.
