Canada Earns 2-1 Win in Japan

Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team defeated the Japanese National Select Team 2-1 in exhibition play at the Amino Vital Field Stadium in Tokyo on Monday, August 2.



Brittany Timko scored in the fourth minute to give Canada the early lead. Aysha Jamani scored the winner in the 64th minute.



Japan halved the Canadian lead in the 72nd minute.



Canadian goalkeeper Stephanie Labee played all 90 minutes.

L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a remporté une victoire de 2 à 1 sur une sélection féminine japonaise dans un match amical présenté lundi au stade Amino Vital Field de Tokyo.



Brittany Timko a marqué le premier but de la rencontre à la quatrième minute de jeu pour placer le Canada en avance. Aysha Jamani a marqué le but gagnant à la 64e minute de jeu.



Le Japon a coupé l’avance canadienne de moitié sur un but à la 72e minute.



Le gardien Stephanie Labbe a joué 90 minutes devant le but du Canada.



« C’était un bon match,” a déclaré l’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud. « Nous jouions presque avec notre équipe des moins de 19 ans à l’exception de Hooper et Sinclair. Ce fut un excellent camp en général. »

Japan Defeats Canada 3-0

The Canadian Women’s World Cup Team was defeated 3-0 by Japan on Friday in front of 27,262 spectators at Tokyo’s National Stadium.



Josee Belanger, Sari Raber, Leah Robinson, and Katie Thorlakson all earned their first cap with the senor team.



Milo Otani scored Japan’s first two goals in the ninth and 11th minutes. The third and final goal of the match was a Canadian own goal in the 78th minute.



Canadian goalkeeper Taryn Swiatek played all 90 minutes.

L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a subi un revers de 3 à 0 aux mains de l’équipe nationale du Japon vendredi, devant 27 262 spectateurs, au stade national de Tokyo.



Josée Bélanger, Sari Raber, Leah Robinson et Katie Thorlakson disputaient chacune leur premier match international au sein de l’équipe senior.

Pellerud Announces Roster For Japan Friendly

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud today named his 19-player roster for the upcoming friendly against Japan on Friday, July 30th, 2004 at 16:30 (local) at Tokyo’s National Stadium. The team will also play an exhibition match against a Japanese National Team Selection at Amino Vital Field Stadium in Tokyo on Monday, August 2nd, 2004.



The team will depart for Tokyo on Monday, July 26th and will return on Tuesday, August, 3rd, 2004.



Pellerud has invited six new players from the U-19 team that placed first at the CONCACAF U-19 Qualifying Tournament and earned a place in the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship Thailand 2004; Josee Belange (Coaticook, QC), Amanda Cicchini (Oakville, ON), Stephanie Labbe (Stoney Plain, AB), Sari Raber (Richmond, BC), Jodi-Anne Robinson (Richmond, BC), and Stacey VanBoxmeer (Collingwood, ON) who was named the top goalkeeper in the tournament with four shut-outs in five games.

Pellerud invite 19 joueuses au Japon

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a dévoilé aujourd’hui son alignement de 19 joueuses qui prendront part au match international amical du vendredi 30 juillet contre l’équipe nationale du Japon au stade national de Tokyo, au Japon. La rencontre débutera à 16 h 30 (heure locale). Les Canadiennes affronteront aussi une autre sélection nationale japonaise, lundi le 2 août au stade Amino Vital Field de Tokyo.



L’équipe s’envolera vers l’Asie lundi le 26 juillet et rentrera au pays jeudi le 3 août 2004.



Pellerud a invité six nouvelles joueuses de l’équipe nationale des moins de 19 ans qui a terminé au premier rang du tournoi de la CONCACAF et qui s’est mérité une place au championnat du monde de la FIFA 2004 en Thaïlande. Il s’agit de Josée Bélanger (Coaticook, QC), Amanda Cicchini (Oakville, ON), Stephanie Labbe (Stoney Plain, AB), Sari Raber (Richmond, C.-B.), Jodi-Anne Robinson (Richmond, C.-B.) et de Stacey VanBoxmeer (Collingwood, ON). Van BoxMeer a été nommée meilleur gardien du tournoi de la CONCACAF avec quatre jeux blancs en cinq matchs.

Yallop Announces Roster For Men’s World Cup Team Development Camp

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named his 17-player roster for the upcoming Men’s World Cup Team Development Training Camp in Vancouver, BC from July 9-15.



The team will assemble in Vancouver on July 9 and will play Scottish Premier League club Hearts on July 12 at 7:30 p.m. and FA Cup Finalists Millwall from the English First Division on July 14 at 7:30 p.m.. Both games are at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC. The tournament is being hosted and organized by the British Columbia Soccer Association.



Yallop has assembled players from each of the five Canadian A-League teams as well as a number of players from Europe and the United States in an effort to broaden the Men’s World Cup Team Player Pool.

Men’s Under-17 and Under-20 Final Round Qualifying Fixtures Set

Ottawa, Ontario – CONCACAF has announced the respective final round qualifying fixtures for the Men’s Under-17 and Under-20 competitions following draws held at the offices of the CONCACAF General Secretariat in New York City.
Under-17 Qualifying
Canada and Costa Rica will each host a group for the final stage of CONCACAF U-17 qualification, where three teams will advance to the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru.
The group winners will qualify directly to the FIFA U-17 World Championships, while the two group runners-up will compete in a home-and-away playoff, with the winner earning the final CONCACAF berth to the World Championships.

Edmonton Qualifier Kickoff Changed To 7:00 p.m.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that the kickoff time for the Men’s World Cup semi-final round qualifier against Honduras on September 4th, 2004 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta has been changed to 7:00 p.m. MT.
