Morace dévoile les détails sur le camp d’entraînement à venir en Floride

Carolina Morace, l’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne nationale féminine, a dévoilé plus de détails sur le camp d’entraînement qui aura lieu à Sunrise, Floride. Le camp de douze jours commencera le 3 novembre et continuera jusqu’au 14 novembre; un total de 22 joueuses participeront au camp.



Morace a avoué l’importance du camp d’entrainement à venir. « Ce camp est très important dans nos préparatifs en vue du Tournoi éliminatoire de la Coupe du Monde Féminine 2010. Étant donné que notre programme est toujours en période de transition, chaque moment passé ensemble comme équipe est alors crucial. Je profite de l’occasion afin d’élargir le réseau de joueuses disponibles pour le programme de l’équipe nationale séniore en invitant des joueuses qui n’ont jamais eu l’occasion de participer avec l’équipe nationale auparavant. »

Canada adds Poland to European schedule

The Canadian men’s national team has announced that it will face Poland on 18 November in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The match will kickoff at 17:00 local time (11:00 ET) in the northern Polish city.



Combined with the match against Macedonia on 14 November in Strumica (also a 17.00 local kickoff – 11:00 ET), Canada will have played 8 competitive matches in 2009. Under interim head coach Stephen Hart Canada has compiled a 4-1-1 record in 2009, including a strong run to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-final stage.

Canadian Soccer League announces award winners

Serbian White Eagles’ forward Sasa Viciknez has been named Canadian Soccer League Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season. The 35-year old Viciknez wins the award for the second time in his career, having first won the title in 2006.



Viciknez was one of several Canadian Soccer League award winners announced at season’s end. Viciknez’s teammates also won awards: Mirko Medic won CSL Defender of the Year while Dan Pelc won CSL Goalkeeper of the Year.

Association responds to FIFA Amendments (Protection of Minors)

The Canadian Soccer Association wishes to clarify its position on the recent FIFA amendments to the Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players (Protection of Minors) in regards to Academies.
At its meetings on 18 December 2008 and 19 March 2009, the FIFA Executive approved a number of amendments to its Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players (Protection of Minors) that took effect as of 1 October 2009. Article 19 and 19bis of this regulation have been placed on the list of articles that are binding at the national level and must be included, without amendment, in association regulations.

Canadian men to face Macedonia in Skopje

Canada’s men’s national team announced today that it will face Macedonia on 14 November in Skopje, Macedonia. The international friendly will be Canada’s first match following their strong run to the quarter-final stage of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.



At the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada finished first in its group with two wins and one draw before falling 0:1 to Honduras in the quarter-final stage. Following the completion of the tournament, Canada’s Julian de Guzman and Mike Klukowski were named to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup All-Tournament Team. Klukowski was selected as one of six defenders while de Guzman was selected as one of six midfielders.

Canada makes another big jump on world rankings

Canada made another big jump on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Canada moved up one spot within its confederation, but jumped 127 points and 13 places on the world ranking thanks to the devaluation of its older ranking points. Canada now has 631 points on the ranking table and ranks fifth within CONCACAF and 53rd in the world.



The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year.

Haber named USL-1 Rookie of the Year

Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Marcus Haber has been selected United Soccer League First Division Rookie of the Year. Haber was selected the top new professional as voted by the league’s coaches and general managers.



Haber scored eight goals in his first season with his hometown Whitecaps FC. The team reached the final and has since reached the USL-1 playoff final. Whitecaps FC open the final two-match leg against the Impact de Montréal this Saturday at Swangard Stadium.

Impact announces annual award winners

The Impact de Montréal announced its annual winners at the 2009 Impact Awards Banquet. Four players were recognized for their on-field achievements, starting with David Testo as the team’s Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season. Testo, in his third season with the Impact, wins the Giuseppe Saputo Trophy.



“David has shown exemplary consistency, leadership, hard work and perseverance,” said Nick De Santis, Technical Director of the Impact de Montréal. “He has always believed in the team and he enjoys the respect of his teammates. He is a key element on the roster and evolves in an important position in which he plays outstandingly well.”
