Canada’s men’s national team completed a third morning of training in Alliston, ON before traveling down to Toronto on Wednesday afternoon. The move comes just two days away from the opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers™, set for this Friday 2 September 2011 at BMO Field in Toronto, ON.
Centre back Kevin McKenna has been named Canada’s captain for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers™, with matches set to begin Friday 2 September in Toronto at BMO Field. Canada will face St. Lucia, Puerto Rico and St. Kitts and Nevis in CONCACAF Stage 2 from September to November 2011, with only the group winner allowed to proceed to CONCACAF Stage 3.
Canada’s men’s national team enjoyed a second day of training in Alliston, ON this Tuesday morning at the Nottawasaga Inn. The team trained for 90-plus minutes before the lunch hour at the all-in-one location just north of Toronto. The 30 August session was part of the team’s preparations for the Friday 2 September FIFA World Cup Qualifiers™ match at BMO Field in downtown Toronto.
Rest assured, Canada will score goals in CONCACAF Stage II of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers™. With six matches on the table over the next 11 weeks, a healthy Dwayne De Rosario could set the national record for most career goals in international “A” matches. He needs just two to tie the record set by former striker Dale Mitchell who closed out his career back in 1993.
All three home matches that Canada will play in CONCACAF Round 2 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Qualifiers will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet One. Canada’s three home dates are Friday 2 September against St. Lucia (official kickoff time is 20.00 ET / 17.00 PT), Tuesday 11 October against Puerto Rico (19.00 ET / 16.00 PT) and Tuesday 15 November against St. Kitts and Nevis (19.00 ET / 16.00 PT). In addition, the first away match that Canada will play in Puerto Rico will also be televised live on Sportsnet One on Tuesday 6 September (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT).
Canada officially opened training this Monday morning in Alliston, ON in advance of its Friday FIFA World Cup Qualifiers™ match at BMO Field in Toronto. The Canadian side spent close to 90 minutes on the pitch at the Nottawasaga Inn before the lunch hour. Canada will train in Alliston this 29, 30 and 31 August before heading down to Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.
When Canada takes the field this Friday 2 September, the players will be supported by over 350 Canadian soccer fans from Guelph Soccer Club. By virtue of bringing the largest group to participate in the local club group sales initiative ahead of the 2 September match where Canada will face St. Lucia in the first 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Qualifiers at BMO Field, Guelph Soccer was granted the exclusive opportunity to provide the State Farm Ball Retrievers for the match.
