OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – L’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior a tenu sa première séance d’entraînement à Hangzhou aujourd’hui. L’équipe s’est entraînée de 17 h à 18 h 30 (heure locale) au Centre de Formation Sportive de Zhejiang.

Les joueuses canadiennes sont arrivées à Hangzhou jeudi dernier, ayant pris l’avion à Singapour pour se rendre à Shanghai en Chine (et poursuivi leur voyage en bus jusqu’à Hangzhou). Il ne reste qu’une petite semaine avant le premier match de l’équipe dans le cadre de la Coupe du Monde Féminine de la FIFA, Chine 2007, le 12 septembre prochain.

Canada was amongst the teams that arrived in China in anticipation of the fifth FIFA Women’s World Cup. China 2007 will be played in five cities from 10-30 September. Canada plays its first game on 12 September.
Canada flew in from Singapore earlier today, landing in Shanghai before traveling by team bus to Hangzhou. Canada spent close to a week training in Singapore after the 30 August international friendly in Japan.

Les joueuses canadiennes ont quitté Singapour ce matin, atterrissant à Shanghai avant de se rendre à Hangzhou en bus. La sélection canadienne a passé près d’une semaine à Singapour à l’issue du match international amical du 20 août dernier à Tokyo qui l’opposait au Japon.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup final has been decided by both a penalty shootout (USA 1999, see 3 September story) and a golden goal (USA 2003, see 4 September story). At Sverige 1995, the Deutschland-Norge final was decided after a clean sheet in regulation time.
Norge won the Sverige 1995 final 2:0 over Deutschland, thus fully vindicating a 1:2 loss in the final four years earlier to the United States. Coach Even Pellerud got the victory while goalkeeper Bente Nordby posted the shutout.

Canadian head coach Dale Mitchell announced his roster today for the international friendly match against Costa Rica taking place on 12 September at BMO field (19:00). The team will be gathering in Toronto this week for training sessions in lead up to the match.
“It has been some time since the men’s national team has played in Toronto and I believe our players are looking forward to the strong support,” said head coach Dale Mitchell. “We have selected a roster that is capable of continuing the positive play that the team has shown throughout the summer.”
Yesterday, we looked at three star players from Group C, the group in which Canada will play its opening round at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007. According to FIFA Magazine, Ingvild Stensland (Norge), Adjoa Bayor (Ghana) and Joanne Peters (Australia) are three players to watch in the coming month.
Oh yeah, Christine Sinclair was Canada’s “star player” according to the September 2007 issue.
