Allen Replaces Sinclair In England Series

Montreal, Quebec – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud today announced Chilliwack, British Columbia native Amber Allen will replace Christine Sinclair in the two match series against England. Both forwards are teammates with the Vancouver Whitecaps.



“With Sinclair and Burtini out of the line-up, I wanted someone with lots of skill and experience,” said Pellerud. “Allen was my first choice.”



Sinclair is having a non-injury related minor medical procedure and will be out for the next two weeks. She is expected to recover fully.

Media Conference Scheduled For Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association will hold a media conference on Tuesday, May 20th, at 1:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at the Ottawa Civic Centre to officially launch the upcoming woman’s international friendly against England on Thursday, May 22nd at Frank Clair Stadium.



CSA Chief Operating Officer, Kevan Pipe will be accompanied by Canadian head coach Even Pellerud, assistant coach Ian Bridge, and local players Charmaine Hooper (Nepean) and Kristina Kiss (Kanata).

Kevan Pipe, directeur exécutif de l’ACS sera accompagné par l’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne Even Pellerud, l’entraîneur adjoint Ian Bridge, et deux joueuses originaires de la région de la capitale nationale, soit Charmaine Hooper (Nepean) et Kristina Kiss (Kanata).



L’équipe anglaise y sera aussi représentée par l’entraîneur-chef Hope Powell et le capitaine Karen Walker – meilleur buteur de l’histoire de son équipe nationale.

Two Development Teams Travel To Europe

Ottawa, Ontario – Ray Clark, Director of Coaching and Player Development, and Men’s Youth (U-20) Team Head Coach, Dale Mitchell will travel with two development teams to Europe for training and international play.
Mitchell’s Youth (U-20) Development team (1985) will depart on Sunday, May 18 and will play two international friendlies against the Czech Republic and Austria during their 12-day training camp before returning on Thursday, May 29.

Pellerud Announces England Series Roster

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach Even Pellerud today announced his 19-player roster for the England series which take place on Monday, May 19th in Montreal and Thursday, May 22nd in Ottawa.



The roster includes five Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA) players; Breanna Boyd (Carolina Courage), Charmaine Hooper (Atlanta Beat) Christine Latham (San Diego Spirit), Karina LeBlanc (Boston Breakers), and Sharolta Nonen (Atlanta Beat).



Hooper is an Ottawa native who played for the Nepean Hotspurs who has earned 94 caps and 56 goals with the national team. Kristina Kiss who plays for Floya of the Norwegian Premier League is another Ottawa native included on the roster. Kiss spent several seasons with the Ottawa Fury of the W-League.

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a fait connaître son alignement de 19 joueuses qui prendront part à la série de deux matchs amicaux contre l’Angleterre, lundi le 19 juin à Montréal et jeudi le 22 juin à Ottawa.



Cinq joueuses proviennent de la WUSA (D1-États-Unis) soit Breanna Boyd (Caroline), Charmaine Hooper (Atlanta) Christine Latham (San Diego), Karina LeBlanc (Boston) et Sharolta Nonen (Atlanta).



Hooper est originaire d’Ottawa et a joué pour les Hotspurs de Nepean il y a plusieurs années. Elle compte 56 buts en 94 matchs internationaux à son actif. Kristina Kiss du club Floya de la première division norvégienne est une autre joueuse d’Ottawa qui est au sein de l’alignement. Kiss a disputé quelques saisons avec le Fury d’Ottawa de la W-League.

Lenarduzzi And Wilson Inducted To The National Soccer Hall of Fame

Two former Canadian internationals and veteran Whitecaps players Bob Lenarduzzi and Bruce Wilson are to be inducted to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the United States.



Lenarduzzi, a Canadian defender-midfielder played more games in the North American Soccer League than any other man, 312, including 288 in the regular season and 24 in the playoffs. In the course of this achievement, playing in a league dominated by United States-based teams, he probably had more influence on American soccer than any other player ever who wasn’t an American citizen and never played for an outdoor American club.

CSA Bids For Edmonton To Host WWC Group

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced it has officially informed FIFA and the United States Soccer Federation of its interest in having Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium act as one of the venues for the 2003 Women’s World Cup and for one of the groups of four (including Canada) to be based in Edmonton.
The bid is contingent upon the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup being awarded to the USSF, following the decision taken by the FIFA Executive Committee on May 3 to move the tournament from China due to concerns over SARS.
