Pellerud Selects 17-Players For Camp

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach Even Pellerud has named 17-players for a nine day training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Dec. 5 – 13, 2003 in preparation for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualification trournament in Costa Rica from February 25 – March 7, 2004.



The training camp will be Canada’s first since they placed fourth at the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup USA following a 3-1 loss to the United States on October 11, 2003 in the third place match.

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde, Even Pellerud, a dévoilé aujourd’hui son alignement de 17 joueuses qui prendront part à un camp d’entraînement de neuf jours à Fort Lauderdale, en Floride, du 5 au 13 décembre 2003, en préparation pour le tournoi de qualification olympique de la CONCACAF, du 25 février au 7 mars 2004, au Costa Rica.



Il s’agira de la première réunion des joueuses canadiennes depuis leur défaite de 3 à 1 contre les États-Unis en finale pour la troisième place de la Coupe du monde 2003 de la FIFA, le 11 octobre 2003 en Californie.

CONCACAF teams to know their fate with 2006 World Cup Qualifying draw this week

Thirty-four CONCACAF teams will know their route to the FIFA World Cup Finals Germany 2006 this week when the Qualifying draw takes place on 5 December 2003 in Frankfurt, Germany.



The qualifying campaign will kick off on 18 February 2004 with the last games scheduled for 12 and 16 November 2005; almost two years of intense competition to see who will represent the Confederation in Germany 2006.

CSA Appoints National Staff Coach and Technical Programs Manager

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced the appointment of Sylvie Béliveau as CSA National Staff Coach – Community Development, effective January 1, 2003 and David Benning as Technical Programs Manager, effective immediately.
Béliveau, a former member of the Canadian Soccer Association Board of Directors as Director: Female soccer, Head Coach of the Women’s National Team from 1991-96 where she coached the Canadian team to their first World Championship in 1995, and Assistant Coach from 1986-91.

Nocita And Stambrook Honoured In Manitoba

Former CSA President Fred Stambrook and former national team player Tony Nocita were inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame this past weekend in a ceremony held on Saturday, November 15th in Winnipeg, Manitoba.



Fred Stambrook was inducted in the builder category; he first became a member of the Executive of the Manitoba Minor Soccer Association (MMSA) in 1970 and was elected as the first Vice President for the association in 1974. He served as President of the Canadian Youth soccer Association from 1975-79 and as member of the board for the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) for 12 years until 1986. In that time, Stambrook held the position of President of the Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA) from 1980-86 and became President of the CSA in 1986 for three consecutive terms to lead a successful Canadian effort to qualify for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico City. Following his tenure as President of the CSA, Stambrook continued as Past-President for the CSA from 1992-98. Stambrook also sat on the Board of the Canadian Olympic Association from 1986-92 and 1998.

World Cup Team Update

The Men’s World Cup Team is presently training in Prague in preparation for tomorrow’s match against the Czech Republic without Fernando Aguiar who has elected to stay in Lisbon with his expectng wife.



Nick Dasovic will remain with the World Cup Team following the match and travel to with the team to Ireland before joining the Men’s U-20 Team in Turkey.



Aguiar is doubtful for the Republic of Ireland game.

Sportsnet Will Broadcast Ireland Friendly

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association and Rogers Sportsnet announced today the network will broadcast Canada’s upcoming international friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, November 18 from Dublin, Ireland.



Canada’s friendly against the Czech Republic in Teplice, Czech Republic on Saturday, November 15 will not be broadcast on Sportsnet.

Dates set for CONCACAF Gold Cup 2005

Following a meeting of its Executive Committee in Miami, Florida USA yesterday, CONCACAF announced the dates of the 2005 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The twelve-team tournament, that brings together the top nations from across the CONCACAF region every two years, will take place from 1-17 July 2005 in venues to be confirmed at a later date.
Mexico won the most recent edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, in 2003, that was hosted in Foxboro, Massachusetts; Miami, Florida USA and Ciudad de México, D.F.

Miller Releases Roster For Upcoming Friendlies

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team interim Head Coach Colin Miller today announced his roster for the upcoming international friendlies against the Czech Republic in Teplice, Czech Republic on Saturday, November 15 and the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, November 18 in Dublin.



Returning to the national team for the first time since 1999 is midfielder Fernando Aguiar. Aguiar, who has been capped 13 times for Canada and last played in a friendly against Saudi Arabia in 1999, plays with Benfica in Portugal.
