Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, and Victoria Join Edmonton and Toronto as WYC 2007 Hosts

Ottawa, Ontario –At a media conference held today in Toronto, ON, FIFA Vice President and CONCACAF President, Jack Warner joined Canadian Soccer Association President and National Organizing Committee (NOC) Chair, Andy Sharpe to announce that Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, and Victoria will join Edmonton and Toronto as hosts of the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007. “We are extremely pleased with the quality of the submissions received and I would also like to thank all groups who expressed interest in working with the CSA in hosting the championship,” said Sharpe. “The criteria needed to become a successful host city were set very high and as a result only four cities were able to match and surpass the standards we had set out. All four cities during the past two days presented outstanding bids. We were pleased to endorse these submissions and are delighted with the balance of representation across the country. As of today, we will begin our detailed preparations for what promises to be among the premier sporting competitions ever held in Canada.”

Forrest Named Honorary Chair of WYC 2007

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced Craig Forrest, one of the most storied Canadian soccer players, has accepted the position of Honorary Chair for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007. “We are most delighted that Craig has agreed to the position as Honorary Chair for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007 and look forward to his involvement in regards to staging this world class tournament,” said CSA President Andy Sharpe. Forrest, of Coquitlam, British Columbia led the Canadian Men’s Youth team in 1987 at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Chile and helped Canada to two 2-2 draws against Italy and Nigeria, and a 1-0 loss to Brazil.

Yallop, Miller and Denoncourt, Eight Others To Be Inducted Into Soccer Hall of Fame Saturday

Current national team coach Frank Yallop is one of eleven new members who will be inducted into The Soccer Hall of Fame in Vaughan, Ontario on Saturday. The inductions were first announced on November 15. Yallop, who is being inducted as a player, joins former national team coaches Don Petrie and Tony Waiters in the Hall. Also being inducted are former national team players Colin Miller, Wes McLeod, Terry Moore, Garry Ayre, Norman McLeod and Michelle Ring-Passant, Making up the eight players being inducted is former England international Sam Chedgzoy, who played and coached in Montreal from 1930 to 1940 and continued to live in Montreal after he retired. The three builders being inducted are Steve Stavro, who was president of the Toronto City Soccer Club in the old Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League, former FIFA referee Sonia Denoncourt, and Georges Schwartz, a former member of the FIFA Amateur Committee, who has been prominent in Quebec soccer for many years.

Pellerud To Visit Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women’s World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud will visit Ottawa April 7-10 to take part in a National Soccer Coaches Association of Canada (NSCAC) Coaches Symposium at the Chimo Inn and to put on clinics at the Gloucester Mews Superdome on Bearbrook.
Pellerud will also be available to discuss the release of his new book “Even Pellerud on Coaching and Leadership in Women’s Soccer” written with Sam Kucey, editor of the NSCAC Newsoccer Journal.
Pellerud will be joined at the Symposium by Dick Howard (a member of the FIFA Technical Committee), Sylvie Beliveau (FIFA Technical Committee and CSA Staff Coach) as well as longtime Penn State University men’s head coach and former NSCAA President Barry Gorman.

WYC 2007: Calgary and Winnipeg Withdraw Their Bid to Host

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) today announced that Calgary and Winnipeg have withdrawn their intent to bid to host venues at the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007.
Edmonton and Toronto have already been pre-determined as the two major venues, leaving four venues to be announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
In January, the CSA received 11 letters of intent, from 11 cities across Canada, to bid to co-host the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship.

The Canadian Soccer Association, which was founded in 1912 and has over 826,000 registered players and over 70,000 registered coaches, is seeking a Technical Director who will provide the leadership and dynamism necessary to take the Association’s Technical Program to a new level of success.

Reminder: Deadline for New CSA Logo is approaching

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) would like to remind the Canadian Soccer community that the April 4, 2005 – 12 noon ET deadline to submit their adaptation of an updated CSA logo is quickly approaching.
On Friday, March 11, 2005 the CSA invited the Canadian soccer community to participate in the process of generating a new look for 2006 and beyond.

Event Director – FIFA World Youth Championship 2007

The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) is seeking, beginning in June, 2005, the services of a full-time Event Director for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007.
The FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007 is a three-week long, 6-site, 24-nation, 52-match tournament featuring the best young 20-year-old players in the world. It is the second largest event staged by FIFA after the FIFA World Cup.

Canada vs France Cancelled!

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) today regretfully announced the cancellation of the Women’s international friendly against France on Thursday, April 28th, 2005 in Laval, Quebec.



Due to the cancellation of another match within the CONCACAF region on April 24, 2005, the French Football Federation (FFF) has been forced to cancel their trip to North America.



The Canadian Women’s National team will be playing three international friendlies in Europe; one against Holland on April 19th and two against Women’s World Champions, Germany on April 21st and 24th. The CSA is in discussions to add a fourth game to this tour on April 27th, 2005.
