Les Canadiennes iront en Chine

Ottawa, Ontario – L’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud de l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a invité 19 joueuses à prendre part au tournoi des quatre nations 2004 organisé par l’Association de soccer de la Chine (CFA), du 30 janvier au 4 février. L’équipe se réunira à Vancouver, vendredi le 23 janvier pour un camp préparatoire avant de s’envoler pour la Chine, lundi le 26 janvier.



Le Canada jouera contre la Chine, la Suède et les États-Unis. C’est la première fois que le Canada est invité à ce tournoi annuel, tout juste après que l’Allemagne et la Norvège aient décliné l’offre. La compétition sera disputée sous format de tournoi à la ronde simple.

Yallop Makes Final Changes For Friendly

Canada’s Men’s World Cup team is traveling to Bridgetown, Barbados today for their friendly against Barbados on January 18th at 7:00 PM ET.



Due to minor injuries to Jeff Clarke, Carl Fletcher, Pat Onstad, and the unavailability of Edgar Bartolomeu, Canadian Head Coach Frank Yallop has called in five Olympic team members; goalkeeper Andrew Olivieri, defenders David Frondimadis and Adam Braz, Striker Rob Friend, and Midfielder Josh Simpson.



The squad is now at 17-players for the friendly against Barbados.

Women’s Olympic Qualifying Schedule

CONCACAF today released the complete fixtures for the Women’s Olympic Final Round that will feature two groups of four teams playing in two venues in Costa Rica: Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia; Estadio Nacional in San José.



Canada, Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica are in Group A, while Group B is composed of Haiti, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the USA.



The event kicks off on Wednesday, 25 February 2004 and will have six consecutive first round doubleheaders (three each in Groups A and B) until Sunday, 1 March.

Calendrier de la qualification olympique féminine

La CONCACAF a dévoilé aujourd’hui le calendrier complet de la ronde finale de qualification olympique féminine qui sera composée de deux groupes de quatre équipes sur deux sites au Costa Rica, soit le stade Eladio Rosabal Cordero à Heredia et le stade Nacional de San José.



Le Canada, la Jamaïque, le Panama et le Costa Rica se retrouveront dans le Groupe A, tandis que le Groupe B comprendra Haïti, le Mexique, Trinité-et-Tobago et les États-Unis.

Kapos Added To Senior Roster

Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop has added 24-year-old defender Stathios Kapos to his roster for the training camp in Ft. Lauderdale and international friendly against Barbados.



Kapos plays with AEK Athens in the Greek First Division and plays right back. He holds dual Canadian and Greek citizenship and is expected to join the team today.



Yallop’s squad now numbers 16 players. Some members of the Olympic team are training at the same facility and Yallop will hold intra-squad games in the next few days with Olympic team head coach Bruce Twamley. The Olympic team is scheduled to play Mexican club side Necaxa on Thursday.

Kingston to host Men’s World Cup Qualifying Match

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play their first World Cup Qualifying match against Belize on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Richardson Stadium (Queen’s University campus) in Kingston, Ontario at 4:30 p.m.. This will be the team’s first match in the opening round of World Cup Qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. The return leg of the home and away series will be played in Belize on Sunday, June 20.

Yallop Releases Roster For Camp and Barbados Friendly

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today announced his 15-player squad for a training camp in Ft. Lauderdale and an international friendly against Barbados on January 18.



The players will assemble in Ft. Lauderdale on January 12 and join members of the Olympic team who are currently preparing for the upcoming Final Round of Olympic Qualifying in Mexico, February 2-12. Yallop will add one or two players from the Olympic team for the friendly in Barbados in Bridgetown on January 18 before returning to Florida on January 19 and continuing the camp until January 23.

Yallop Named Men’s World Cup Team Head Coach

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today named former Canadian international defender Frank Yallop as head coach of the Men’s World Cup Team, effective January 1, 2004 through to the end of 2006. The contract also holds an option for an extension to 2010. All other terms of the contract are confidential.



The team has been without a head coach since Holger Osieck resigned on September 2. Colin Miller, another former Canadian international and a teammate of Yallop’s acted as interim head coach for the recent friendlies against Finland, Czech Republic and the Republic of Ireland.



On November 23rd, Yallop led the San Jose Earthquakes to their second MLS Championship in his three-year tenure as head coach with a 4-2 win over the Chicago Fire in the MLS Cup.

Canada Draws Belize in World Cup Qualifying

Canada has drawn Belize as its opponent in the opening round of World Cup Qualifying for the 2006 World Cup. The Central American country is ranked No. 174 in the FIFA World Rankings and is located east of Guatemala on the Caribbean Sea coast. The World Cup Draw was made in Frankfurt, Germany today.



The home and away series with Belize will take place on June 13 in Canada (site to be determined) and June 19 or 20, 2004 in Belize City. The winner advances to the semi-final round.



The first stage saw the 34 CONCACAF nations drawn into groups to decide who will progress. The teams were drawn into ten groups of three and two groups of two.
