With its third loss in four matches, Canada has officially been eliminated from the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers. Canada has two games left, but will not be able to catch one of the top two spots in CONCACAF Group 2, otherwise known as the Group of Death because it featured three of the confederation’s top-five nations. Canada’s Saturday night loss was a 1:3 defeat to Honduras in San Pedro Sula.
With just one point after four matches, Canada (0-1-3) has fallen to fourth place in its group behind Jamaica (1-1-2). Jamaica won 1:0 over Mexico on Saturday. With the 3:1 victory, Honduras has caught Mexico at nine points apiece (3-0-1).

Canada made its final on-field preparations this evening in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Canada was given one hour on the Estadio Olimpico field to prepare for tomorrow’s all-important FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers match against Honduras. Canada must win to climb back into its group standings.
The Canada-Honduras match kicks off at 19.30 MT. The match will be broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet West (18.30 PT / 21.30 ET) for those viewers with all four Sportsnet channels.
Canada arrived in San Pedro Sula, Honduras tonight in anticipation of this Saturday’s all-important FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers match. Canada is looking to pick up three points on Honduras, who currently sits in second place in CONCACAF Group 2. The match kicks off at 19.30 MT and will be broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet West (18.30 PT / 21.30 ET).
Canada spent four days training in Sunrise, FL. Coach Dale Mitchell says that all 18 players are healthy after Thursday’s morning session. The team flew Thursday evening from Miami to San Pedro Sula.
Canada has added Nik Ledgerwood to its lineup before this weekend’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match in San Pedro Sula Honduras. Ledgerwood replaces Julian de Guzman who is unavailable because of injury. Ledgerwood will be part of the 18-man roster that will travel to Honduras this Thursday.

Canada is the fifth-ranked country in CONCACAF in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings. Canada moved up one spot within the CONCACAF rankings while its points total move up from 412 to 415. Canada jumped ahead of Trinidad & Tobago in the standings, who fell from 414 to 404 points in the October 2008 ranking.
The four CONCACAF teams ahead of Canada all had big jumps. The United States (861, up 73 points), Mexico (841, up 38 points), Honduras (601, up 99 points) and Costa Rica (476, up 38) all posted two victories in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers in September. Of note, the United States slipped ahead of Mexico within the CONCACAF rankings. The United States (21) and Mexico (24) are both ranked amongst the top-25 nations in the world rankings.
Canada has arrived in Sunrise, FL to begin training for this weekend’s FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers match in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The Canadian Soccer Association officially launches its search for a new women’s head coach this week. The deadline for applications is 15 October 2008. The new head coach will be responsible for the overall management and direction of the women’s national-team program. Responsibilities include the preparation and selection of the women’s national team. The head coach will also develop and document all aspects of the women’s national team, including technical leadership, high-performance training and planning, sports science requirements, and evaluation and analysis of results and benchmarks. Qualifications include Canadian Coaching “A” Licence (or equivalent) and international coaching experience.
