There has been lots of talk of goals numbered 100 – both Canada’s Christine Sinclair and USA’s Abby Wambach are stuck on No. 99 heading into Monday’s clash at BMO Field. For Canadian goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, however, she is completely focused on another number: clean sheet #30.
LeBlanc is Canada’s all-time leader with 29 clean sheets, more than double her closest teammate Erin McLeod (13). She is also the longest-serving member of the Canadian team, now in her 12th season with a record 69 appearances under her belt. She twice recorded five clean sheets in a season, which before last year was also a national-team record.

Coach Carolina Morace had Canada’s women’s national team for a second full day of training today, once again in Vaughan at the Vaughan Grove Sports Centre. Morace put her team through two training sessions as the team continued its preparations for Monday’s international friendly match against the world’s number-one ranked USA.

L’équipe se prépare pour leur match amical international contre la meilleure équipe au monde, les États -Unis, lundi prochain.

Canada’s men’s national team has announced its roster for the international friendly match against Cyprus. The two sides meet this 30 May 2009 in Larnaca, Cyprus.
“This is a good opportunity to see some players we have not seen before,” says men’s national head coach Stephen Hart. “If they prove themselves well, they might get the call (for the CONCACAF Gold Cup).”
Vancouver Whitecaps FC has caught its first break in the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Despite several illustrious chances by host Impact de Montréal in tonight’s contest, the Whitecaps held their ground to come away with a 2:0 victory and their first three points in the 2009 competition.
Of course, the Whitecaps captured the three big points by finishing on their early chances. Marcus Haber scored in the first minute and Charles Gbeke scored in the 17th minute to secure the Whitecaps win in front of the 11,483 fans at Stade Saputo in Montréal.
Canada’s women’s national team opens camp today in Toronto under the watchful eye of head coach Carolina Morace and her staff. The team breaks camp this Wednesday afternoon at Frank Lamport Stadium from 15.00-17.00. The first 16 of 22 players are in camp today while the remaining six players arrive later tonight before the team’s first full session on Thursday.

Oakville’s young football hopefuls took in Canada’s first practice this afternoon at Allan Lamport Stadium in downtown Toronto. The club received a special invitation from BMO, one of the Canadian Soccer Association’s leading soccer partners. The young girls watched the practice and then came down to the pitch to meet the players and get autographs.
