World Cup Qualifying Series To Be Played At Richardson Stadium

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play both of their World Cup Qualifying games against Belize at Richardson Stadium (Queen’s University campus) in Kingston, Ontario. The first game will be played on Sunday, June 13 (4:30 p.m. kickoff) with the second game scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET.



The second game of the series was originally scheduled for June 20 in Belize, however the Belize Football Federation asked the CSA to host the game in Canada.



Tickets for the first game are now available while those for the second game will be available as of Monday, April 5.

2006 World Cup Qualifying

Grenada eliminated Guyana from 2006 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying after defeating the host, 3:1 at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground in Berbice on 14 March and won the first round series 8:1 on aggregate.



Grenada advances into the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Second Round, where they will meet the USA in a home-and-away series in June.



The 2006 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Caribbean First Round Series continue this week with Dominican Republic hosting Anguilla in two matches at the Estadio Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte in Santo Domingo on 19 and 21 March.

Canada To Play Wales On May 30

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men’s World Cup Team will play an international friendly against Wales in Wrexham, Wales on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop will also hold a training camp for European-based players in Manchester, England from March 28 – April 1 during the international break.



The Wales friendly will be part of Canada’s final preparations for the World Cup Qualifying series against Belize which begins in Kingston on June 13 in the first of two games. Canada is also scheduled to play Yallop’s former club San Jose Earthquakes in San Jose on Saturday, June 5. On June 6, the team will travel to Ottawa for a 4-day training camp before arriving in Kingston on June 11.

Ottawa, Ontario – L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a vaincu le Costa Rica 4 à 0 aujourd’hui pour terminer au troisième rang du tournoi de qualification olympique de la CONCACAF à San José, au Costa Rica.



L’attaquante Christine Sinclair a marqué deux fois et tandis que Charmaine Hooper et Aysha Jamani ont inscrit les autres buts du Canada.



Andrea Neil, originaire de Vancouver, a disputé son 100e match international en cette occasion.



Les gardiens de but Karina LeBlanc et Erin McLeod se sont partagés les honneurs du jeu blanc.

Canadians Make All-Tournament Team

CONCACAF unveiled today in San Jose, Costa Rica, the 2004 Women’s Pre-Olympic All-Tournament Team.

The All-Tournament Team was selected by the CONCACAF Technical Study Group and features the “Best XI” along with seven Honourable Mentions.



Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc (CAN) was named to the “Best XI,” along with defenders Joy Fawcett (USA), Sharlota Nonen (CAN), Gabriela Trujillo (CRC).



The midfield is composed of Shannon Boxx (USA), Cindy Rodriguez (CRC), Monica Vergara (MEX) and Aly Wagner (USA), while Shirley Cruz (CRC), Maribel Dominguez (MEX) and Abby Wambach earned accolades at the forward positions.

Canada Defeats Costa Rica For Third Place

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Women’s World Cup Team defeated Costa Rica 4-0 for third at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Friday, March 5, 2004 in San Jose, Costa Rica.



Forward Christine Sinclair scored two, midfielder Charmaine Hooper and forward Aysha Jamani added goals for a Canadian victory.



Vancouver native, Andrea Neil earned her 100th cap for Canada, second only to Hooper.



Goalkeepers Karina LeBlanc and Erin McLeod shared the shutout.

Cinq Canadiennes honorées par la CONCACAF

San José, COSTA RICA – La CONCACAF a dévoilé aujourd’hui la composition de l’équipe d’étoiles de son tournoi de qualification olympique féminin. Cette sélection a été effectuée par le groupe d’études techniques de la CONCACAF. Sept joueuses ont aussi reçu une mention d’honneur.



Le gardien de but canadien Karina LeBlanc a été sélectionné au sein de l’équipe ainsi que les défenseurs Joy Fawcett (É.-U.), Sharlota Nonen (CAN) et Gabriela Trujillo (CRC).

Canada Edges Costa Rica 2-1

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team defeated host, Costa Rica, 2-1 late last night to advance to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Canada finished first in Group A and will now face Mexico who ranked second in Group B play. The winner will earn one of two CONCACAF spots at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Canada has won 10 straight games against Mexico and will attempt to make it 11 on Wednesday, March 3 at, Estadio Nacional in San Jose.



“Canada’s first 30 minutes of the game represented our best performance so far in this tournament,” said head coach Even Pellerud. “Fortunately we were able to capitalize on great offensive pressures thanks to clinical finishes by Christine Latham and Aysha Jamani.”



Latham opened the scoring in the 7th minute followed by a goal by Jamani in the 21st minute. Jamani has now scored five goals during this tournament which ties her for first in goal scoring with Patricia Perez from Mexico.

Ottawa, Ontario – À son dernier match de la ronde préliminaire du tournoi de qualification olympique de la CONCACAF à Herédia, au Costa Rica, l’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du monde a vaincu ses hôtes 2 à 1, accédant ainsi à la demi-finale du tournoi. En vertu de son premier rang au sein du Groupe A, le Canada affrontera le Mexique, deuxième du Groupe B, mercredi le 3 mars. Le Canada a remporté ses 10 derniers matchs contre le Mexique.



« Nos 30 premières minutes ont été le théâtre de notre meilleure prestation jusqu’à maintenant à ce tournoi, » a indiqué l’entraîneur-chef Even Pellerud. « Heureusement, nous avons su capitaliser sur notre pression à l’attaque en raison des finitions cliniques de Christine Latham et d’Aysha Jamani. »
