Une nouvelle ère de l’histoire de l’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior a commencé aujourd’hui, lorsque le Canada a fait match nul sur le score de 1 à 1 face à la Nouvelle-Zélande lors du premier match de l’édition 2009 de la Coupe de Chypre féminine. À la 11ème minute de jeu, c’est Christina Julien qui a ouvert le score en faveur des Canadiennes avec un excellent tir. La Nouvelle-Zélande a riposté à la 34ème minute sur un but de Betsy Hassett. Les deux équipes ont eu plusieurs occasions pour sceller la victoire, mais ni l’une ni l’autre n’a pu trouver le chemin des filets.
Canada’s women’s national team confirmed its 23-player roster today for the 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup. Canada, who has been training in Rome this past week, undertakes its championship defence beginning this 5 March against New Zealand.
In the opening round, Canada faces New Zealand on 5 March, Netherlands on 7 March and Russia on 10 March. The opposite group features England, France, Scotland and South Africa. All teams will cross over and play on 12 March to determine their placing in the tournament.

La sélection nationale canadienne s’entraîne à Rome depuis une semaine et commencera à livrer bataille pour défendre son titre à partir du 5 mars prochain. Son premier match l’opposera à la Nouvelle-Zélande.
Au premier tour du tournoi, le Canada affrontera la Nouvelle-Zélande, le 5 mars, les Pays-Bas, le 7 mars, et la Russie, le 10 mars. Dans le deuxième groupe, on retrouvera l’Angleterre, la France, l’Écosse et l’Afrique du Sud. À l’issue de la phase des groupes, les équipes affronteront l’équipe ayant terminé à la même place du groupe opposé, le 12 mars, pour déterminer le placement final au tournoi.
Canada’s women’s team has enjoyed a busy week of training in Rome, Italy this week, its second camp under new head coach Carolina Morace. The team is preparing for next week’s 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup.
“The facilities here are excellent and it has resulted in a very sharp camp with great steps being taken by the team,” said Morace.

Canada’s national head coach Carolina Morace is heading to Vancouver this May for the 2009 BC Soccer Annual Soccer Conference. Morace will be the keynote speaker at the popular soccer conference.
The Canadian Soccer Association and its three top professional clubs РMontr̩al Impact, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC Рannounced the schedule today for the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. The three-team, six-match tournament runs this 6 May to 17 June. The 2009 winner will advance to represent Canada in 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League season.

Just this week, the Canadian Soccer Association shipped red Canada jerseys to both Tancredi and de Guzman which will be personally signed and then returned to the lucky fans.
Tancredi and de Guzman were recognized as the 2008 CanadaSoccer.com Fans’ Choices in an online vote which ran in December and January.
