L’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior affrontera le Mexique (México), mercredi prochain, pour obtenir son billet pour les Jeux Olympiques d’été 2008, qui auront lieu à Beijing, en Chine. Les deux équipes s’affronteront dans le cadre de la demi-finale du Tournoi préolympique féminin de la CONCACAF, mercredi 9 avril 2008, au stade olympique Benito Juarez de Ciudad Juarez, au Mexique. Le coup d’envoi du match est prévu à 19 h 30 (heure locale).

Canada has already qualified for the 9 April semi-final regardless of Sunday’s outcome, but the result will determine whether Canada finishes first or second in Group B. Quel que soit le résultat du match de dimanche, le Canada est déjà qualifié pour la demi-finale, qui aura lieu le 9 avril. Le match du dimanche déterminera si le Canada se termine à la première ou deuxième place de son groupe (le Groupe B). L’ampleur de la victoire aurait facilement pu être beaucoup plus importante, puisque nous avons su nous créer un nombre extraordinaire de bonnes occasions de but. Ceci dit, nos adversaires alignaient quelques attaquantes très rapides et talentueuses qui ont su mettre la défense canadienne sous une certaine pression. »

After putting away the first opponent at the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament, Canada will now prepare for Costa Rica on 6 April. Canada is hoping it can win a second-straight match and finish first in Group B, thus guaranteeing a spot in the 9 April semi-final.
“The Olympic Games campaign started with a quite comfortable win against a skillful and quick, but somewhat disorganised Trinidad & Tobago team,” says coach Even Pellerud. “The win could easily have been much bigger, as we created an extraordinary high number of goal-scoring opportunities. That said, our opponent had some very fast and skillful strikers and they challenged our back four at times.”

Canada’s senior women’s team announced today that it will take part in the 2008 Peace Queen Cup. The tournament, which runs 14-21 June in Suwon, Republic of Korea, will feature eight teams including Canada. Canada, Republic of Korea, DPR Korea and Argentina have been drawn into Group A while the United States, Brasil, Italia and Australia have been drawn into Group B.
Canada will face Argentina on 14 June, hosts Republic of Korea on 16 June, and DPR Korea on 18 June. All Group A matches are played on those three dates at the Suwon World Cup Stadium. The Group B matches are played on 15-17-19 June at the Suwon Sports Complex.
