Canada Drops France 2-0

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team today defeated France 2-0 in Angoulème, France during their second match of the Tournoi international de France. Proving to be a physical game, Canada received three cautions and a red card. Ejected from the game was Breanna Boyd in the 82nd minute.



Scoring for Canada early in the first half Kara Lang. Lang opened the scoring in the 11th minute, giving her a total of five career goals. Tallying another for Canada and securing the 2-0 win was Andrea Neil. Neil, a veteran of the team, scored Canada’s second goal in the 30th minute.

Le match a été marqué par la rudesse, tel que démontré par les trois cartons jaunes aux Canadiennes et le carton rouge de Breanna Boyd, expulsée à la 82e minute.



Kara Lang a ouvert la marque tôt en première demie. Elle a inscrit le but, son cinquième en carrière, à la 11e minute. Andrea Neil a scellé l’issue de la rencontre à la 30e minute.

Canada Draws Australia 0-0

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team today drew Australia 0-0 in Portiers, France during their first match of the France International Tournament. Canada dominated possession and out-chanced Australia in scoring opportunities in front of more than 4,000 supporters in the Stade de la Pépinière.



Carmelina Moscato, called up from the Under-19 team, earned her first international cap with the Women’s World Cup team when she replaced Cindy Tye in the 71st minute. Erin McLeod, also with the Under-19 Team, earned her second career shut-out.

Womens World Cup Team Travels to France

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will leave for France on Thursday, May 28 where they will take part in an international tournament from April 3-9. Canadian head coach Even Pellerud has selected 18 players for the tournament, which is part of his ongoing preparations for qualifying for the 2003 Women’s World Cup, being held in China.



CONCACAF qualifying for the 2003 Women’s World Cup will coincide with the Women’s Gold Cup, which will be held in late October and early November. The two finalists will be guaranteed berths in the World Cup with the third-place finisher playing a playoff against a team from Asia for a place in the tournament.

En route vers la France

Ottawa, Ontario – L’équipe canadienne féminine de Coupe du Monde a quitté le pays le jeudi 28 mars en direction de la France, afin de prendre part à un tournoi international du 3 au 9 avril. Canada Suffers First Loss of Tournament

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team suffered its first loss of the 9th Algarve Cup in Lagoa, Portugal when they gave up three goals to Finland in the 7th place match. Canada ends the tournament with an impressive 3-1-0 record. In an even first half, the Canadians best chance for a goal came when Christine Sinclair had a net bound shot which was cleared off the line by a Finnish defender.

Le Canada conclut ce tournoi avec un dossier de trois gains et un échec. Le Canada a obtenu sa meilleure chance de marquer au cours d’une première demie qui n’a fait de maître.
