L’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior est arrivée en Chine pour participer au Tournoi Olympique de Football Féminin qui débutera ce mois. L’équipe féminine de soccer a rejoint l’Équipe canadienne olympique au sein du Village canadien en vue de participer aux Jeux Olympiques d’été 2008 de Beijing. L’équipe féminine de soccer se rendra à Tianjin, le 2 août prochain, pour mettre les dernières touches à ses préparatifs en vue d’affronter l’Argentine, le 6 août prochain, dans le cadre de son premier match.
Canadian fans can send their support to the women’s national team in Beijing via a special email address, believe@soccercan.ca. Letters of support will be forwarded to the team as it undertakes its first-ever appearance in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Canada’s women’s national team is participating in the 2008 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament from 6-21 August. Canada begins the tournament in Group E with Argentina, China and Sweden. With just over three weeks to go before Canada’s next stage begins on the Road to South Africa 2010, tickets to the series opener at BMO Field have been selling quickly. More than 18,000 seats have already been secured for the 20 August match in Toronto, the first of three home matches in CONCACAF Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Qualifiers.
Canadian fans are encouraged to act swiftly to help build “a sea of red” to support the national team. Tickets to the Toronto match are available through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.ca or 416.872.5000). A number of Canadian support groups have already scooped up tickets to create their own cheering sections within BMO Field.
Canada’s women’s national team will play two international friendly matches this weekend in Singapore. Canada will play New Zealand on Saturday 26 July at 19.30 and Singapore on Sunday 27 July at 19.30. Both games will help serve Canada’s final preparations for next month’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in China.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to play these two games here,” says coach Even Pellerud. “They are well timed after our arrival precamp and well timed prior to kick off against Argentina on 6 August.”

Le Canada affrontera la Nouvelle-Zélande, le samedi 26 juillet, à 19 h 30, avant de se mesurer à Singapour le lendemain, le dimanche 27 juillet, Ã 19 h 30. Les deux matchs serviront de préparation en vue de la participation de la sélection nationale au Tournoi Olympique de Football Féminin, qui se déroulera le mois prochain en Chine.
Selon l’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe nationale canadienne féminine senior, Even Pellerud : « Nous sommes très heureux d’avoir l’opportunité de disputer ces deux matchs ici. Ces matchs viennent au bon moment pour nous, suite à notre arrivée et avant notre dernier camp. Ils nous aideront à nous préparer en vue d’affronter l’Argentine, le 6 août prochain, au cours de notre premier match. »
The Impact de Montréal has won the inaugural Nutrilite Canadian Championship. With a 1:1 draw in the championship finale on 22 July, the Impact secured first place with seven points in the three-team tournament. Toronto FC finished second with five points while the Vancouver Whitecaps finished third with four points.
Heading into the last match at BMO Field in Toronto, the Impact needed a draw or win to secure the championship. Toronto FC needed the win. Toronto FC’s Rohan Ricketts opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but the Impact’s Roberto Brown countered with the equaliser in the 26th minute.
L’Impact de Montréal a remporté l’édition inaugurale du Championnat canadien Nutrilite. Grâce au match nul obtenu au cours de la dernière journée du Championnat, le 22 juillet, l’Impact a terminé avec sept points et s’est donc assuré la première place de ce tournoi qui réunissait trois équipes. Avant le dernier match du Championnat, disputé hier soir au Stade BMO Field de Toronto, en Ontario, l’Impact avait besoin d’un match nul ou d’une victoire pour remporter le Championnat, alors que le FC Toronto devait à tout prix gagner. C’est le FC Toronto qui a ouvert le score à la 15e minute, par l’entremise de son milieu de terrain Rohan Ricketts, mais Roberto Brown a marqué le but égalisateur neuf minutes plus tard, à la 26e minute.
Canada’s women’s national team is off the Olympics. The team departed Monday 21 July from Vancouver International Airport for Singapore where it will train these next seven days before heading to China. Canada plays its first game on 6 August at Tianjin Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Tianjin against Argentina.
This will be Canada’s first trip to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. Canada travels to Beijing on 30 July. After its opening match on 6 August, Canada will face hosts China on 9 August (also in Tianjin) and Sweden on 12 August (at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing).
