Canada’s women’s team has enjoyed a busy week of training in Rome, Italy this week, its second camp under new head coach Carolina Morace. The team is preparing for next week’s 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup.

“The facilities here are excellent and it has resulted in a very sharp camp with great steps being taken by the team,” said Morace.

The team is looking forward to defending its Cyprus Cup title won last March. Canada plays New Zealand on 5 March, Netherlands on 7 March and Russia on 10 March. The final day of the competition is 12 March.

In Rome, the team also attended a match between Lazio and Bologna at the Olympic Stadium. The Canadian team was a guest of the Lazio Football Club.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners, has one of the best women’s football programs in the world. The team has participated in each of the last FIFA Women’s World Cups and participated in last year’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing, China. The team came within an extra-time goal of knocking off number-one ranked USA in the quarter-final match.
