he was 17 years old when his family moved from Branschweig to Toronto... earned a degree in commerce and finance at Rochester... 
 
said Brand in 1974, teammate Dick Howard “supports me, encourages me, pushes me; I owe him a lot. Before a game he’ll tell me what certain players are likely to do, what situations to expect”... wrote Colin Jose, historian, Brand put on “an outstanding display against the Soviet Union at the Montréal 1976 Olympics”...
