2024 TELUS Canadian Championship set to kick off this week

Canada Soccer’s 2024 TELUS Canadian Championship opens with a pair of mid-week matches in Calgary and Toronto.

The Preliminary Round of Canada Soccer’s 2024 TELUS Canadian Championship will kick off this week as the annual Battle of the North for the Voyageurs Cup opens with a pair of mid-week matches in Calgary and Toronto. ​

On Tuesday, Cavalry FC will host Vancouver FC at ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows. This will mark the first time the two clubs have met in the competition. Cavalry FC reached the Semi-Final round in their inaugural year of competition during the 2019 edition, while Vancouver FC will be participating in the TELUS Canadian Championship for their second year.

On Wednesday, Toronto FC will host first-time participants Simcoe County Rovers FC at BMO Field. Toronto FC are the most successful club in the competition’s history, having lifted the Voyageurs Cup eight times: 2009-2012, 2016- 2018, and 2020. Simcoe County Rovers FC qualified for this year’s TELUS Canadian Championship after winning the 2023 League1 Ontario championship in their second year as a club (founded in 2021).

The following week, the Preliminary Round will heat up with three matches played on Wednesday 1 May. In Ontario, Forge FC will host York United FC in Hamilton, while Atlético Ottawa faces off with Valour FC in Ottawa.

On the West Coast, Pacific FC will host TSS Rovers FC once again in a head-to-head clash in Langford, British Columbia to finish off the day. The two teams met in the Quarter-final of the 2023 edition of the competition with Pacific FC ​ emerging as the winners.

A single match will wrap up the round on Thursday 2 May as HFX Wanderers FC host first-time participants CS St-Laurent at the Wanderers Grounds.

All six Preliminary Round matches will be broadcast live on OneSoccer, available online at OneSoccer.ca and via the OneSoccer app, on the fuboTV Canada platform, and as a linear channel on Telus’s Optik TV (Channel 980).

Beyond the Preliminary Round, the six winners will advance to the TELUS Canadian Championship Quarter-Final stage where they will be joined by last year’s finalists, champions Vancouver Whitecaps FC and runners-up CF Montréal who both received byes from the First Round of the competition. The Quarter-Finals will be played as a two-match home and away series across May.
