Match Report

Canada won 3:1 over Costa Rica to win first place in Group B at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship. Janine Beckie, Nichelle Prince and Christine Sinclair were the goalscorers before Gloriana Villalobos cut the lead with less than 20 minutes remaining. Nichelle Prince earned Player of the Match honours.
 
Of note, captain Christine Sinclair scored her 175th international goal.
 
 
BY THE NUMBERS:
Canada’s statistical leaders were Christine Sinclair with four shots, Rebecca Quinn with 43 passes (on 46 pass attempts), and Sophie Schmidt with four steals. Canada fired 11 shots (eight of which were on target), connected for 303 of 327 pass attempts (93%), won 17 steals, and held 56% possession over Costa Rica. Just behind Quinn, Ashley Lawrence completed 34 of 38 pass attempts, Jessie Fleming completed 31 of 33 pass attempts, and Shelina Zadorsky completed 31 of 36 pass attempts. Goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé made one save.
