Match Report

Canada opened the group stage at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship with a 2:0 win over Jamaica at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, TX, USA. The victory gave Canada three points in Group B. Nichelle Prince scored two goals and Stephanie Labbé posted the clean sheet. Jessie Fleming was the Player of the Match.
 
 
BY THE NUMBERS:
Canada’s statistical leaders were Christine Sinclair with six shots, Shelina Zadorsky with 59 passes (on 61 pass attempts), and Kadeisha Buchanan with five steals. Canada fired 20 shots (eight of which were on target), connected for 409 of 456 pass attempts (90%), won eight steals, and held 71% possession over Jamaica. Just behind Zadorsky, Rebecca Quinn completed 55 of 57 pass attempts, Ashley Lawrence completed 43 of 48 pass attemps, and Buchanan completed 42 of 43 pass attempts. Goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé posted the clean sheet, but did not have to make any saves in the victory.

In the second half, coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller replaced Beckie with Adriana Leon (66’), Quinn with Diana Matheson (74’), and Prince with Deanne Rose (87’).
 
Jamaica’s starting lineup featured Sydney Schneider (goal), Dominique Bond-Flasza, captain Konya Plummer, Allyson Swaby, Lauren Silver, Deneisha Blackwood, Chinyelu Asher, Giselle Washington, Marlo Sweatman, Trudi Carter, and Khadija Shaw.
