Match Report

Canada will need to wait two more days before it can qualify for a fifth consecutive FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The young Canucks fell 0:1 after extra time to Mexico in the semi-final stage of the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship. The loss pushes the reigning champion Canada back into a match for third place this Saturday at the Estadio Cementos Progresso in Ciudad Guatemala.

Canada will face Costa Rica in the match for third place at 13.30 local time. The match will be broadcast live on CONCACAF.com (14.30 ET / 11.30 PT). Mexico will face USA in the final at 16.30 (17.30 ET / 14.30 PT).

"For now, we need to recover and use all of our time to do so," said captain Chelsea Stewart. "We have to bring everything we have for the next game. We have to want it more than Costa Rica."

Both Canada and Costa Rica lost by one goal in the semi-final stage. While Canada lost 0:1 after extra time to Mexico, Costa Rica fell 1:2 to USA in the first semi-final match earlier in the day.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners, had won eight straight matches at the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship before tonight. This year's tournament, which runs 20-30 January, will qualify three CONCACAF teams to the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Germany 2010. USA and Mexico are through while Canada and Costa Rica will fight for the third and final spot. The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Germany 2010 runs this 13 July to 1 August. To date, Canada has qualified for every FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
