FT
Canada won 6:0 over Venezuela in the opening match of the 2016 CONCACAF Girls’ Under-15 Championship in Orlando, FL, USA. Canada scored three times on either side of the half-time whistle. Aaliyah Scott (9’), Maya Ladhani (20’), Jayde Riviere (31’), Julianne Valerand (41’), Mya Jones (49'), and Teni Akindoju (61’) were the goalscorers for Canada in the 9 August match in Orlando, FL, USA.
FIRST HALF:
Canada controlled possession and opportunities throughout the first half. They went up 1-0 in the ninth minute after a run and left-footed shot from Aaliyah Scott from about 12 yards out.
On the second goal, Ladhani avoided a sliding challenge before slotting the ball up field to Huitema for the shot on target. Goalkeeper Aranzha Aguiar made the save, but Ladhani was on the spot to crash it in for a 2-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, Rivere made it 3-0 after a nice move by Julianne Vallerand in the midfield. Vallerand created space for herself, then found Riviere wide open on the right who then slotted it past the goalkeeper.
SECOND HALF:
Canada added three more goals in the second half, with Julianne Valerand making it 4-0 in the 40th minute. From a Jayde Riviere corner kick, the ball bounced around a little before Vallerand struck it in from inside the six-yard box.
In the 48th minute, Mya Jones scored after dribbling around the goalkeeper. Huitema had sent Jones forward with a nifty chip pass.
In the 61st minute, Teni Akindoju completed the scoring after she calmly stepped around the goalkeeper after a pass forward from Ladhani.
Late in the match, Venezuela had their best chance saved twice by goalkeeper Sophie Guilmette. After an initial shot was tipped off the goalkeeper, Guilmette dove to save the Venezuela rebound from a header.
