Match Report

Canada won 6:0 over El Salvador in their final group match at the CONCACAF Girls’ Under-15 Championship in Orlando, FL, USA. Sydney Kennedy (three), Teni Akindoju (two), and Lara Kazandijan were the goal scorers.

It marked Canada’s fourth-straight win in five days, with their next match a Quarter-Finals elimination match in four days.

FIRST HALF:

Canada opened on the attack right away, with Jayde Riviere hitting the outside of the near post down the right side in the first minute. She hit the side of the netting again in the 10th minute before Lara Kazandjian hit the crossbar in the 11th minute.

In the 16th minute, Kennedy made a great move to get open in the box, but her shot was stopped by goalkeeper Nathalie Martinez who made a great toe save.

It was, however, just a matter of time before Canada scored their first goal. In the 18th minute, Akindoju shook off multiple defenders and fired a shot that could have gone wide, but Kennedy made the hustle to power it in at the back post. It was 1-0 for Canada.

In the 27th minute, Akindoju made it 2-0 after she pounced on the rebound from a Julianne Vallerand cross. Martinez had made the initial save, but Akindoju tracked the play and poked it in for a 2-0 lead.

Martinez made another big save in the 30th minute, this time stopping Akindoju after a Maya Ladhani throughball.

In the 35th minute, Kennedy made it 3-0 on a cross from Jayde Riviere.

SECOND HALF:

In the second half, Kennedy scored the first of three more Canada goals in the 39th minute. Akindoju passed to Kennedy across the box who then knocked it into the upper corner past substitute goalkeeper Paolina Molina.

In the 41st minute, it was Akindoju’s turn with a big shot from outside the box.

In the 45th minute, a free kick from Kennedy narrowly missed the target. A few minutes later, another Kennedy free kick was nearly redirected by Akindoju.

In the 52nd minute, Alexia Cajilig slotted a pass into the midfield before Kazandjian slotted a low, hard shot from inside the box. It was Canada’s sixth and final goal of the match.
