Match Report

Canada won their Round of 16 knock-out match 4:0 over Curaçao to take one step closer to a spot at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019. Canada won their 9 May match with a Curaçao own goal in the first half followed by Kamron Habibullah, Simon Colyn and Jayden Nelson goals in the second half.

With the victory, Canada advanced to the Quarter-finals of the 2019 Concacaf Men's Under-17 Championship. With victories against Guatemala, Barbados and Curaçao, it marked the first time since 2003 that Canada won three straight matches at the U-17 tournament.

In the 21st minute, Jayden Nelson charged past his defender down the left side of the pitch, crossed the ball into the box for Kamron Habibullah, Elijah Nava attempted block put it into his own goal.

Shortly before halftime, Nelson bent a free kick over the wall toward the top left corner, Tyrick Bodak did well to keep the ball out.

Ten minutes into the second half, the match was halted due to imminent lightning.  When play resumed nearly an hour later, the Curacao defense stopped a Gianfranco Facchineri header off the line.  In the 66th minute, moments after came on as a substitute Jeremie Omeonga squared a ball for Habibullah, another solid stop by Bodak on the doorstep.

Julian Altobelli was taken down in the box by defender Nathan Holder, Habibullah calmly converted in the 76th minute.

Three minutes later, Nelson’s right footed shot was parried by Bodak, Simon Colyn pounced on the rebound, from a tight angle lifted it up over the keeper into the goal.  A few minutes from the end, Nelson put the icing on the cake.  On the counter attack, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, hit it around him and slotted it home.
