Match Report

Canada fell 1:2 to Netherlands in the group finale at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019, but still finished second in the group with a team-best six points through three matches. Anouk Dekker opened the scoring and Christine Sinclair equalised on the hour mark, but substitute Lineth Beerensteyn scored the winner with 15 minutes remaining.
 
For Sinclair, it was her 10th FIFA Women’s World Cup goal and 182nd career international “A” goal. Sinclair was also named the FIFA Player of the Match.
 
 
LINEUPS & NOTES:
Canada’s starting XI featured Stephanie Labbé in goal, Ashley Lawrence at right back, Kadeisha Buchanan and Shelina Zadorsky at centre back, Allysha Chapman at left back, and Desiree Scott, Sophie Schmidt, Jordyn Huitema, Janine Beckie, Jessie Fleming and captain Christine Sinclair from the midfield up through to the attack. In the second half, coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller replaced Sinclair with Adriana Leon (68'), Chapman with Jayde Riviere (69'), and Scott with Rebecca Quinn (79'). 
 
Of note, Huitema made her FIFA Women’s World Cup debut.
 
Netherlands’ starting XI featured captain Sari Van Veenendaal in goal, Desiree Van Lunteren at right back, Anouk Dekker and Dominique Bloodworth at centre back, Merel Van Dongen at left back, Sherida Spitse, Danielle Van de Donk, and Jackie Groenen at midfield, Shanice Van De Sanden and Lieke Martens on the wings, and Vivianne Miedema up front. In the second half, coach Sarina Wiegman replaced Spitse with Jill Roord (70'), Martens with Lineth Beerensteyn (70'), and Van De Donk with Renate Jansen (87').
