Canada booked its spot in the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship semi-final with a 4:0 win over Jamaica on Friday 4 May. The win gives Canada six perfect points after two matches, with one group match remaining. Canada is guaranteed to play in the 10 May semi-final stage, a stage that will offer teams the first of two opportunities to win one of three spots to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Azerbaijan 2012.
Valérie Sanderson, Elissa Neff, Summer Clarke and Nichelle Prince all scored for Canada. Sanderson was selected Canada's player of the match. Also on Friday night, Panama won 7:1 over host Guatemala.
Group B action continues on Saturday 5 May, with Mexico facing Bahamas and USA facing Trinidad and Tobago. Both USA and Mexico already have one victory each, with USA winning 10:0 over Bahamas and Mexico winning 2:0 over Trinidad and Tobago.
All CONCACAF matches will be broadcast live on CONCACAF.com, with Canada's Sunday 6 May match scheduled for 16.30 local / 18.30 ET / 15.30 PT. The matches are broadcast live from Estadio Cementos Progreso in Ciudad de Guatemala. Fans can also follow the action via Canada Soccer's social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr (as well as a full post-match report on CanadaSoccer.com).
Three teams from CONCACAF will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Azerbaijan 2012, which runs 22 September to 13 October. Along with the three CONCACAF teams, the 16-team tournament will qualify three teams from Asia (China PR, Japan and Korea DPR), three teams from Africa (Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria), one team from Oceania (New Zealand), three teams from South America (Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay), host Azerbaijan and two more teams from Europe (to be determined in late June).
Canada has participated in both previous editions of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup (New Zealand 2008 and Trinidad and Tobago 2010). Canada has also won three CONCACAF women's youth titles, with two won at the Under-20 level (2004 and 2008) and one won at the Under-17 level (2010).
