Match Report

Canada’s Men’s National Team is onto the next challenge after a 4:0 win over Dominica on Tuesday night at BMO Field in Toronto.

Tesho Akindele, Cyle Larin, and Tosaint Ricketts had the goals as Canada is into the draw for the third round of qualifying in CONCACAF for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia ™ with a 6:0 overall result on aggregate after a 2:0 win in Roseau, Dominica last Thursday.

As was the case last week, Canada was on the board early as Akindele scored his first international goal for Canada in the fourth minute when he was quickly on a loose ball and hit a powerful right-footed shot in from about 18-yards out.

Canada controlled most of the possession and got 11 shots on goal in the first half but didn’t get a second goal until late in the half when Larin curled an absolute stunner of a right-footed shot into the top corner to the left of Dominica goalkeeper Glenson Prince.

For Larin, it was his third goal in three games as he continues his fine form for both Canada and club team Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer.

Ricketts got his first of the night seven minutes into the second half when Akindele curled in a perfect low cross from the left side and it was a simple tap-in to put Canada up three.

Prince kept his team close for the second straight game with nine saves in the first half and pulled out some more heroics when he dove to his right to deny a David Edgar penalty after a Dominica player was called for a handball in the area.

Not to be denied, however, Ricketts got his second of the night and Canada’s fourth when he was played in with a lovely through ball by Jonathan Osorio and all Ricketts had to do was chip Prince who was off his line to cut down the angle.
