For the first time, the Canadian Championship featured four teams from four provinces after the addition of FC Edmonton. The four teams were divided into two, two-match, total goals, semi-final series. The semi-final winners then squared off in the Canadian final, which was another two-match, total goals affair. Reigning champions Toronto FC went undefeated across four matches to win their third-straight Voyageurs Cup. After beating FC Edmonton 4-0 in the semi-finals, they beat Vancouver Whitecaps 3-2 in the final.

Toronto FC’s Joao Plata has won the George Gross Memorial Trophy after being selected most valuable player of the 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Plata won the award after leading Toronto FC to the 2011 Voyageurs Cup, helping Toronto FC clinch a spot in 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League.
