With extended, behind-the-scenes footage and never-before-seen interviews, Canada Soccer have launched the #WeCAN Documentary Series following both National Teams to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™. Starting with the Men’s National Team Documentary Series this October and November 2022, the first seven episodes takes fans on the incredible qualifying journey that helped Canada qualify for the FIFA World Cup™ for the first time in 36 years.
“Canada Soccer are excited to launch the #WeCAN Documentary Series that will provide an inside look at how both National Teams prepare to compete on the world’s stage,” said Dr. Nick Bontis, Canada Soccer President. “The dedication and commitment of our players and staff are on full display for all Canadian fans to see as we continue to unite our country from coast to coast in support of our National Teams at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and FIFA World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.”
The #WeCAN Documentary Series provides a unique insight into the inner workings of Canada Soccer’s National Teams on the road to the biggest tournaments in the world of sports. Produced by Canada Soccer, the series is spoken in the ‘athlete’s voice,’ thus providing an opportunity for the players and staff of the National Teams to tell their story in their own words.
The seven Men’s National Team episodes highlight each of the seven qualifying windows from March 2021 through March 2022 when Canada finished as Kings of Concacaf in the Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. There will be a new episode each week leading up to Canada’s opening match at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
This marks the first time ever that Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team and Women’s National Team have both reached the final competitions for the FIFA World Cup™ in the same quadrennial cycle. This year will mark the Men’s National Team’s first participation in the FIFA World Cup™ since 1986 while next year the Women’s National Team will participate in their eighth consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup™ since 1995. The Women’s National Team Documentary Series will be produced in the build up to next summer’s tournament in Australia & New Zealand.
