honoured as a BC Soccer Life Member... an Honourary Life Member of the Metro Women’s Soccer League... named in her honour, Leeta Sokalski Cup honours BC Soccer’s women’s B winners...

said Sokalski in the Vancouver Sun in 1982, “soccer is the most satisfying sport I’ve ever been involved with. You get some great exercise and there is the added bonus of meeting and socializing with a lot of your peers”... wrote Rodney Palmer in The Post magazine in 1987, Leeta “is a born administrator and prides herself on her intimate knowledge of every aspect of her job”... said Sokalski in the same 1987 The Post magazine article, “I can see how all the different aspects of the Association connect and I think that makes me a good administrator”... said Sokalski in 1987 to Dan Stinson for the Vancouver Sun, “the late 70s and early 80s were the boom years for women’s soccer in British Columbia and for a time, I was involved in all levels. I worked as an administrator, I was a player, a referee and a coach. But the administrative side of it eventually required more and more time and commitment”....

remembered Sokalski in 2024, “I am proud of my participation in the various programs that supported women’s soccer at the national level. I was there at the beginning when Women in Sport Canada wanted to support a women’s national program. I went to the National Training Camp in 1986 as the BC provincial representative and saw the selection of the first Women’s National Team”...

For Sport

served on Canada Soccer’s Board of Directors (2003-04 to 2005-06 for Female Soccer)... served on Canada Soccer committees including the Women’s Advisory Committee, Finance Committee, and Constitution Committee... served on Canada Soccer’s Women’s Advisory Committee in 1986-87, during which time the first-ever Women’s National Team made its debut in 1986...

served as President of BC Soccer (1987 to 1990)... during her time as BC Soccer President, helped amalgamate BC Soccer Association and the BC Youth Soccer Association... also served BC Soccer as Treasurer (1990 to 1998), a Board Member (1999-2000), Vice-President Senior (2000-01) and 1st Vice-President (2001-02)… during her time as BC Soccer President, worked with other provincial Presidents in 1988 to ensure that a Canada Soccer budget line was created for the Women’s National Team...

served as President of the Metro Women’s Soccer League (1983-86)... previously served as Registrar with the Metro Women’s Soccer League starting in 1980... helped grow the Metro Women’s Soccer League to as many as 72 clubs across as many as five divisions... from the 1981-82 season, Metro Women’s League teams were both winners (Burnaby Edmonds) and runners up (Burnaby Wesburn) in the inaugural BC Soccer Women’s Championship for the Labatt’s Rose Bowl...

served as a one of the first female provincial referees in British Columbia in the early 1980s...
