Bio

Arthur Bernard Cartwright... soccer family (brother Alex)... participated in soccer, cricket, curling, golf... he was 20 years old when he was drafted under the Military Service Act of 1917 (his medical examination was 15 October 1917 in Calgary and he was later called up on 5 June 1918)... engaged to his future wife Myrtle on 1 January 1918... married his wife Florence Myrtle Taylor on 20 March 1920 (their children were Elsie b.1920, Arthur b.1921, Florence b.1928)... he was 89 years old when he passed away in Calgary on 7 September 1986 (he was buried at Burnsland Cemetery)... worked as a civil servant at the Calgary Post Office... participated in soccer, cricket, curling, golf... enjoyed gardening, oil painting, music (he played the violin)... he was one of seven Hillhurst alumni that attended the 1967 Canada Soccer Championship final in Calgary...

as noted in 1922 in the Calgary Herald, “while on the wee side is always producing the goods”... as noted in 1924, “regarded as one of the best footballers in the Dominion; is fast, tricky, brainy, and a wonderful shot with both feet; possesses a pronounced swerve when on the run with the ball, which makes him a hard man to stop; can play in any position on the team with equal success, and it is this versatility which makes him such a star at the game”... as noted in the Calgary Herald in 1926, “quoted as one if not the best footballer in Calgary”...
