said Bob Harrison after the 1949 championship, Smith “played the best soccer of his (young) career in the final series”... as noted in a 1950 all-star program, “often described as ‘most underrated player in City soccer’; essentially an attacking half back”... wrote the Vancouver Province in 1950, Bill Smith is “an outstanding attacking half back; tremendous kick and accurate shot”... wrote Austin Delany in 1951, “overly dainty at times, but a good wing half”... as noted in a 1951 all-star program, a “strong attacking halfback; has the secret of timing in kicking a ball, which in spot of slight build gives him a kick that is the envy of players 20 or 30 pounds heavier than he is”...
