Shuéme... female Great White Owl (species Bubo Scandiacus of the Strigidae family)... she was born in the coastal dunes along Hudson Bay on 17 July 2011, the day of the final for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011... embodies the spirit of the competition and the expansive soul of Canada as a multi-cultural nation... her name is inspired by the French word for owl, chouette... enjoys reading and learning, soaring high, traveling from coast to coast, watching football... noted as a “fun and friendly character with a big heart”... unveiled at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa on 17 June 2014...
