Injury Prevention

As part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ Legacy, the Canada Soccer will be moving forward with a project to implement the FIFA 11+ conditioning program for children aged 14 years and over, and the Canadian Sport for Life Movement Preparation program for children aged 7 years old and older, in all Canada Soccer clubs across Canada.

This project aims to help prevent injuries that can lead to significant time away from sports, increase physical literacy, focusing on movement skills and will enable youth to continue participation in physical activity, thereby promoting healthy living.

Preventing injury and building resiliency will keep youth engaged in sports, will provide a more enjoyable experience, and will maintain sport participation.

The primary objectives of this program are:

  1. Build a network of champions who support FIFA 11+ and Movement Preparation, promote its use and provide the necessary training in their region to ensure sustainability of the program.
  2. Increase the awareness among soccer coaches about the long term impact of injury and the success of prevention programs.
  3. Reduce the number of injuries among soccer players.
  4. Build the resiliency and durability of Canadian children and youth and increase their participation in sport and physical activity.
  5. Increase the capacity of health care professionals working in soccer to promote injury prevention through their interactions with clubs and players.

This program is delivered by the Canada Soccer and member associations in collaboration with FIFA, the Sport for Life Society and the Coaching Association of Canada.
