Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Canada Soccer is a leading National Sport Organization responsible for the growth and development of the game of soccer in Canada. In collaboration with its Member Associations, Professional League and Club Members, Canada Soccer works to promote the game from grassroots to high performance, and on a national scale.

Canada Soccer, the governing body for soccer in Canada is searching for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join its Finance Department in support of Canada Soccer’s operations.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist reports to the Manager of Finance and takes full responsibility for all payroll activities including processing bi-weekly payroll, year-end activities, reporting, and reconciliation. The incumbent maintains a high degree of confidentiality, integrity and accuracy and stays abreast of provincial and federal legislative changes across Canada.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist participates in the day-to-day processing, production, and reconciliation of payroll and related remittance transactions to employees, employee group benefits, benefit carriers, as well as federal and provincial agencies. The incumbent is also involved in developing and implementing policies and procedures for payroll and benefits administration.

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist position requires strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact will all levels of an organization with tact, diplomacy and professionalism. Effective time management skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and perform efficiently. Knowledge and experience with ADP and Dynamics 354 Business Central systems would be an asset.

QUALIFICATION AND TRAINING

  • Must have at least two years + of demonstrable experience managing an editorial calendar for a content-rich organization.
  • Minimum 2-year college certificate or diploma in a related field of study (i.e. Finance, Accounting, etc.)
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant Payroll experience in an automated environment with responsibility for all aspects of the payroll cycle, including month and year end reconciliation and reporting.
  • Fluency in both of Canada’s official languages.
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Professional through the National Payroll Institute is an asset.
  • Experience working with Accounts Payable.
  • Experience working with large accounting system applications.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Income Tax legislations.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior management, staff, and a variety of stakeholders within a high volume, deadline driven environment.

  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise financial applications, including system administration functions.
  • Knowledge and experience with ADP and Dynamics 365 Business Central systems would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of benefit administration and pension legislation would be an assets

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing through ADP Workforce Now for different pay groups (salaried/hourly, honoraria, resident/non-residents, permanent/temporary).
  • Manages time and attendance and reconciliation of vacation time and accruals.
  • Maintaining employees files.
  • Reconciliation of all bi-weekly and quarterly pay activities (journal entries, accruals, EHT, Worksafe BC, Government remittances) from the payroll register.
  • Year-end reporting, reconciliation, and processing (T4’s, EHT annual return and Workers Compensation).
  • Ensures all deductibles and taxable benefits are accurate such as LTD payments, GRSP and others.
  • Manages and updates accurately and timely all employee information into ADP Workforce Now, such as new hires, terminations, and ROE’s.
  • Creates reports for analytical and reporting purposes for use by external auditors and management.
  • Reconciles, remits, and processing of employee and employer contributions to Canada Soccer’s various benefit programs (Group Health Plan, Group RRSP, etc.) and annual reporting thereon.
  • Keeps current on benefits-related issues and trends by reviewing publications, attending seminars.
  • Assists with annual audits by preparing audit working papers for review by external auditors and acting as a resource person during on-site audits.
  • Assists other Accounts Payable on an Ad-HOC basis
