Ottawa, Ontario – The Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach, Even Pellerud today announced his 18-player roster for the team’s first training camp of the 2002 season. The World Cup team will train for one week, January 18-25, 2002 in the Nation’s Capital.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Women’s World Cup Team Head Coach, Even Pellerud today announced his 18-player roster for the team’s first training camp of the 2002 season. The World Cup team will train for one week, January 18-25, 2002 in the Nation’s Capital.

Pellerud considers this camp to be short-term and long-term preparation. In February the World Cup Team will attend its third consecutive Algarve Cup in Portugal but the team will also begin to prepare for World Cup Qualifying in November.

All current World Cup Team players are available for this camp and no injuries have been reported. The camp will include several Ottawa natives. Team veteran Charmaine Hooper will return home to meet up with full-time residents, Kristina Kiss, Noel Trepanier and Jessica Hussey.

Joining the World Cup squad for the first time are Cindy Montgomerie-Tye and Claire Martin, both from Nova Scotia. In addition, Patricia Bourcier and Amber Allen have been asked to be guests at the camp.

“I am very pleased with the roster,” said Pellerud. “ I believe this is one of the strongest rosters and yet I am still able to find four more spots for new players. This camp in January always provides a good opportunity for new players to prove themselves and I look forward to watching them play.”

Also joining the World Cup squad is the Women’s Under-19 Team. Ian Bridge, Under-19 Team Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Women’s World Cup Team, has selected 17 players to attend a training camp in Ottawa. Both teams will train together at the Ottawa Coliseum.

Bridge continues to prepare his squad for the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship scheduled for August 2002. The Ottawa camp comprises of players from the eastern portion of North America and later this month, another camp will be held in Vancouver, BC for players residing in the West.
