Ottawa, Ontario- Canadian women’s national team head coach Even Pellerud released the roster of players that will constitute the Canadian team for the inaugural Football Confederation Women’s Gold Cup in the US June 23 to
July 3. Canada will compete in Group B along with China, Guatemala and Mexico in Hershey, PA, Louisville, KY, and Foxboro, MASS.
Absent from the roster due to school commitments are defenders Sharolta Nonen and Isabelle Harvey. Also missing from the roster is midfielder Katherine Warman who recently participated in the Pacific Cup. Returning to the roster is Tanya Franck of the Toronto Inferno and Charmaine Hooper of the Chicago Cobras. Hooper has not played with the national team since the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup when Russia defeated Canada 4-1 in the final match of the preliminary round and is the first time she will be under the direction of Pellerud.
“Charmaine brings a lot of talent and experience to the team,” stated Pellerud. “I look forward to seeing Charmaine play with the team.”
Pellerud will once again bring a young squad to this tournament. “I welcome Clare Rustad, a young promising 17 year old to the team. Playing in the Gold Cup will give her a chance to show her stuff,” said Pellerud. Pellerud looks forward to building on to the past performances of the team.
