Vergara Named To Final List Of Officials

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced Canadian assistant referee Hector Vergara has been chosen as one of the 32 officials (16 referees and 16 assistant referees) who will work the final eight games of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced Canadian assistant referee Hector Vergara has been chosen as one of the 32 officials (16 referees and 16 assistant referees) who will work the final eight games of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.



Vergara, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has already worked four games at the World Cup including England vs Argentina and Sweden vs Senegal in the Round of 16.



Seventy-two officials selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup were chosen based on their performance ratings over the past few years. Those 72 referees were evaluated after their first and second round games, and 32 were selected to continue working the elimination phase of the tournament.



CONCACAF is represented by four officials: Referees Brian Hall (USA) and Felipe Ramos Rizo (Mexico) and Assistant Referees Hector Vergara (Canada) and Michael Ragoonath (Trinidad and Tobago)
