In a pivotal match in the CONCACAF Championship, Canada falls 1:2 to host Honduras in front of 39,071 fans at Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino in Tegucigalpa. Both teams traded goals inside the first 20 minutes, with Ian Bridge scoring his first international “A” goal. Jose Roberto Figueroa then scored to make it 2-1 in the 40th minute. “To the chagrin of the Canadian players and despite the linesman having his flag up,” the Figueroa “offside” goal stood as the winner.

Canada wins 7:0 over host Thailand at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Thailand 2004. Brittany Timko scores three goals for Canada. Tanya Dennis, Jodi-Ann Robinson, Véronique Maranda and Aysha Jamani also score for Canada.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 13 November 1994
Despite a 1:3 loss to Costa Rica, Canada qualifies for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Ecuador 1995 on goal differential. Down 0-3, Roberto Sorella’s goal in the 63rd minute proves to be the difference in the standings at the 1994 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship in San Salvador, El Salvador. Canada will advance to its fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup in five tournaments since 1987 (the tournament is held every two years).

Canada posts a 1:1 draw with Mexico in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier match in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. For the second match in a row, Ian Bridge scores on a header.

Alex Bunbury becomes the first Canadian to score a hat trick in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Bunbury scores three goals in a 4:2 victory over Bermuda in Burnaby, BC. Dale Mitchell delivers the assist on all three Bunbury goals scored in the first half. Also of note in the match, Mike Sweeney becomes the second player to make his 50th appearance for Canada.

Canada posts a 0:0 draw with Mexico in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Pat Onstad establishes a national record with his sixth clean sheet of the year. Canada hits the post three times in the first half.

Canada wins 4:0 over St. Kitts and Nevis in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match at BMO Field in Toronto. To the delight of the home crowd, Canada closes out CONCACAF Round 2 in style with goals from Olivier Occean, Dwayne De Rosario, Josh Simpson and man of the match Tosaint Ricketts. De Rosario scores his 19th career goal, tying him with Dale Mitchell for the Canadian record at the international “A” level.

Canada pulls off a 1:1 draw with Mexico in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier at Estadio Azteca in Ciudad Mexico. Down a man and a goal, Gerry Gray scores from a free kick in front of 90,000 Mexican fans. Gray is the second teenager to score for Canada in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match.

Canada falls 1:3 to Costa Rica in an away FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match. Alex Bunbury (66th), Paul Dolan (54th), Colin Miller (61st), Randy Samuel (record 82nd) and Frank Yallop (52nd) make their final appearances for Canada. Down 1-2, Bunbury is ejected in the 82nd minute of the match.

Canada qualifies for the FIFA U-20 World Cup UAE 2003 following a 3:2 victory over USA at the 2002 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Qualifying Tournament. With USA already through as the other qualified team from Group B, Canada built a 3-0 lead before conceding two goals in the last 20 minutes. Iain Hume (two) and Chris Lemire score for Canada in the win.

THIS DAY IN FOOTBALL: 17 November 2004
Canada wins 1:0 over Guatemala in an away FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match at Estadio Mateo Flores in Ciudad Guatemala. Dwayne De Rosario scores the lone goal in the 57th minute. Before the match, a moment of silence is observed in honour of Domenic Mobilio. The Canadians also wear a black armband in Mobilio’s honour.
