The Power of SHE: TELUS She CAN Coach Update

TELUS She CAN Coach

To promote gender equity in soccer in Canada, the TELUS She CAN Coach program – a part of Canada Soccer’s Women’s and Girls’ development strategy – continues to have a positive impact on the soccer community across the country.

The “Power of SHE” encapsulates the resilience, dedication, and passion of women coaches who are breaking barriers in soccer by participating in the program. As the program progresses, TELUS She CAN Coach remains committed to increasing the number of women coaches, fostering inclusivity, and encouraging more girls to engage in our nation’s game. Together, we celebrate the power that SHE brings to the Canadian soccer landscape.

TELUS She CAN Coach aims to recruit and support new and beginner-level women coaches, addressing and helping to overcome and remove the barriers and challenges women face in soccer participation.

Currently, the program boasts over 200 women actively participating across Alberta and Nova Scotia, marking a significant step forward in fostering diversity and inclusivity in soccer coaching in local communities. Recognizing the invaluable contributions of Provincial Partners Alberta Soccer and Soccer Nova Scotia, the initiative seeks to narrow the gender equity gap by providing structured education and training opportunities and a network of support.

Currently, coaches are in the Coach Education phase, where participants are immersed in a structured coach education training aligned with Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program. This phase acts as a pathway, equipping women with the necessary knowledge and skills to kickstart or enhance their coaching journeys. As the Coach Education phase unfolds, participants engage in courses, training, and modules designed to build a strong foundation for effective coaching.

Moving forward, the program will transition to the Practical Coach Experience phase. After completing the required coach education training, coaches will have the chance to actively apply their newfound knowledge within their club environments. This hands-on experience is a pivotal step in developing practical skills, confidence, and expertise in coaching, contributing to the overall growth of women coaches in soccer.
