On 14 September in Shanghai, Japan defeated Argentina (as expected) and England surprised Deutschland in a 0:0 draw. England captain Faye White, who played this summer in Canada for the Ottawa Fury, was the player of the match.

On 14 September in Chengdu, the Americans and North Koreans each won their match 2:0. American Abby Wambach scored two goals against Sweden (Sverige) while North Koreans Kim Kyong-Hwa and Ri Kum-Suk both scored against Nigeria.

Canada’s Christine Sinclair scored twice on 15 September in Hangzhou in a 4:0 victory over Ghana. Sophie Schmidt and Martina Franko each scored their first FIFA Women’s World Cup goals. Norway (Norge) and Australia, meanwhile, played to a 1:1 draw. Ragnhild Gulbrandsen scored early in the first half while sub Lisa De Vanna scored the equaliser in the second half.

Brasil won 4:0 on 15 September in Wuhan, improving their record to a tournament-best 2-0-0. Cristiane and FIFA World Player of the Year Marta each scored two goals in the victory over hosts PR China. Danmark, meanwhile, won their match 2:0 over New Zealand with goals from Katrine Pedersen and Cathrine Paaske Sorensen.
