Sinclair and Lang Score Two Goals Each

Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team earned its second win of the 9th Algarve Cup today in Lagoa, Portugal, defeating Wales 4-0. This marks Canada’s second win of the tournament and places them first in Group C with six points. Canada’s finishes first-round play on March 5 against Portugal (16.15h local time).

This marks Canada’s second win of the tournament and places them first in Group C with six points. Canada’s finishes first-round play on March 5 against Portugal (16.15h local time). Portugal lost their first game 1-0 to Wales.



Christine Sinclair opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a volley from 15-yards out to give Canada a 1-0 lead at halftime. Adding to the score in the 63rd minute was 15 year-old Kara Lang. Lang scored on a good drive from inside the box for her first goal with the senior side.



Sinclair added her second goal of the game, and 23rd career goal, after a bad clearance from the Welsh defence. Lang finished the scoring, in the 89th minute, with a left foot drive into the far corner. Erin McLeod, Under-19 team goalkeeper, earned her first international cap with the senior side as well as her first shut out with the national team program.
