Canada dispatched St. Lucia and Puerto Rico in its first two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers earlier in September and the team now sits atop of Group D after taking a maximum six points from its opening games.
The Canadians also boast the second best goal differential tally across all six groups of CONCACAF Round 2 qualifying after the first two matches.
Despite the early success, Simpson is determined that he can help Canada become more clinical in front of goal when the team comes together for the next pair of games in October.
We’re going to be a little more dangerous, Simpson said. Personally, I’d like to be a lot more dangerous in the next two games.
Simpson scored a pair of goals in Canada’s first match of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on 2 September against St. Lucia and returned home to Turkey score a crucial goal for Manisaspor in the club’s opening match of the Turkish
Süper Lig season.
The Victoria native is enjoying a flourishing playing relationship with Men’s National Team left-back Mike Klukowski who has joined Simpson at Manisaspor this season.
It’s been absolutely optimal, said Simpson about the benefits of playing with Klukowski during the club season.
To be able to communicate so openly with a guy I’ve been playing with for 10 years, it’s going to be a real big help for both of us. I think both of us are pretty happy with the way that worked out.
Canada will next take to the pitch on 7 October in St. Lucia on Match-Day 3 of CONCACAF Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The team will then return home for a match against Puerto Rico on 11 October (19.00 local kick-off) at BMO Field in Toronto.
