Olympic football opens CBC coverage

Canada’s coverage of the 2008 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament begins this Wednesday 6 August on CBC television. The Canada-Argentina match will be broadcast in the early hours at 04.30 ET or 01.30 PT. It will be the first of three group matches that Canada will play from 6-12 August.
Canada’s women’s football team is currently in Tianjin, China putting the final touches on its preparations. Canada will play at least two matches at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Center Stadium: Wednesday 6 August against Argentina and Saturday 9 August against China.
The 6 August broadcast will be CBC’s first for the 2008 Olympic Games as the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament kicks off two mornings before the opening ceremonies. The women’s football team will not take part in the opening ceremonies as it will still be in Tianjin in anticipation of its 9 August match against China.

Along with its two matches in Tianjin, Canada is also guaranteed one match at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing on 12 August. Canada faces Sweden that day to complete the round-robin group stage.
